Dear Bob :

:- - - _ In response to our recent discus ions on glucose isomerase in
Winston-Salem, the glucose isomerase group has been enlarged so that
more of the most pressing problems can be answered ih the shortest
period of time . Mr . J . A . Giles will assist in the management and
direction of the newer aspects of the program ; Dr . Charles Nystrom
will f urther investigate new enzyme supports which may exhibit better
f low properties ; and Mr . Charles Mays will study improved methods to
rupture the cells after lysozyme treatment and study the column .di-
- ---
mensions required for adequate matrix support . The remainder of the
present isomerase group will continue to prepare the enzyme for the
pilot run, study the flow properties of the cellulose, and try to
solve the pH control problems .

When the P & F enzyme group is .formed, we would still like to

have a designated person visit and assist us in the preparation of
the enzyme for the pilot run . This person could also learn the many
new and unique techniques used to insolubilize the enzyme .
