My Strengths and Weaknesses for Geometry

My strengths for this chapter were and weaknesses very from different chapters.
In this class I had a quiz before each test. My teacher also gave out homework, but I
usually could finish it in class, in my next class, or on the bus. We did a lot of
constructions with a compass and a protractor throughout the semester. Almost every
chapter had postulates, theorems, or corollaries. The definition of geometry is the
branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines,
surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs. In order to pass this class you have to
do the work, try your hardest, make good grades, and pay attention it will pay off in the
long run.
Chapter one was about the foundations of geometry. This chapter contained
things like points, lines, planes, segments, rays, endpoints, and opposite rays. I studied
real hard on my test and I got a descent grade. My weakness was trying to remember
the different formulas. In this chapter you have three formulas which are segment
addition, distance, and midpoint. My strength for this chapter were for this chapter would
be once I knew what the problem was and what formula I needed I would use that
formula to get right answer. If that I didnt think that worked I was like am I must be
doing something wrong? so redid the problem and sometimes I got a different answer.
Chapter two was about geometric reasoning. This chapter contained things like
inductive reasoning, converse, inverse, and contrapositive. This means you can take
one sentence and make it mean three more different ways. My weakness for this
chapter was remembering the conditional statements in which order were the right order
for each conditional statements. My strengths for this chapter were for this chapter were
remembering the order but not so much the right order for each conditional statement,
and sometimes there would be an extra conclusion; that didnt stop me though. The
formulas in this chapter didnt have any numbers. The formulas contained letters mostly
p and q. I also studied deductive reasoning and logic.
Chapter three was about parallel and perpendicular lines. This chapter contained
things like parallel lines, perpendicular lines, skew lines, and parallel planes. One of my
weaknesses for this chapter were remembering how to construct a perpendicular
bisector with a compass, but once I did it an enough times it got a bit easier for me. My
other weakness for this chapter was getting point slope form and slope intercept form
confused. My strength for this chapter were for this chapter was rise over run aka slope.
To me its one of the easiest things to do and probably wont forget how to find the
slope. There are only two formulas for this chapter point-slope form and slope-intercept
form.
Chapter four was about triangle congruence. This chapter contained things like
transformations, congruence, and classifying triangles. There are four types of
transformations. Triangles can be classified by sides or angles. My strengths for this
chapter were for this chapter were knowing which transformation, triangle, or if they
were congruent. My weakness was remembering how far away does the polygon need
to be for that transformation from the x and y axes. There were no formulas to
remember for this chapter. Also in this chapter you and tell if two triangles are congruent

by angle-angle-side, side-side-side, and CPCTC. CPCTC is when all sides and all
angles are congruent to each other.
Chapter five was about properties and attributes of triangles. This chapter
contained things like perpendicular, angle bisectors, medians of triangles, bisectors in
triangles, and Pythagorean Theorem. In this chapter you construct a circle with a
triangle in the middle. You also construct a circle inside the triangle. There really isnt
any formulas, but you do need a compass. My weakness was making a circle inside the
triangle and making a circle around the triangle. My strength for this chapter was
Pythagorean Theorem. For me Pythagorean Theorem was fun for me. I made myself a
little way of remembering if you add or subtract. If you are trying to find the hypotenuse
using Pythagorean Theorem then you add, but if you are trying to find one of the legs
then you subtract using Pythagorean Theorem. There is one formula and it is the
Pythagorean Theorem formula.
Chapter six was about polygons and quadrilaterals. This chapter contained
things like quadrilaterals. There are two types of polygons concave and convex. I dont
have any weaknesses for this chapter. My strengths for this chapter were the ability to
name the polygon and count their sides. There are three formulas that have to do with
polygons but are similar to each other. The first formula is a quicker way of counting the
number of triangles in a polygon. Theres a formula that calculates the degrees for the
interior for each infidel angle. Then theres one that can calculate the measure of
degrees for all of the exterior angles. For me this chapter was the easiest chapter out of
the eight.
Chapter seven was about similarity. This chapter contained a lot of similarity.
There are no formulas for this chapter. There are three way to classify similar triangles.
The three ways are angle-angle, side-side-side, and side-angle-side. I dont really have
any weaknesses for this chapter. For me this chapter was pretty easy. My strength for
this chapter was telling which similarity the triangle was. For the test I was pretty happy
with my grade.
Chapter eight was about right triangles and trigonometry. This chapter contained
things like trigonometry ratios. This chapter was the hardest for me. Even when I was
absent; it was hard for me, but I did the best that I could. This chapter has a lot of
formulas to remember. My weakness was trying to remember the trigonometric ratios.
The ratios are sine, cosine, and tangent. Sine is the angle equal to opposite leg over
hypotenuse. Cosine is the angle equal to adjacent leg over hypotenuse. Tangent is the
angle equal to opposite leg over adjacent leg. If you do these trigonometric ratios right
in the calculator you will get the right answer for how long that leg is. My one and only
strength for this chapter was knowing whether to use sine, cosine, and tangent with
right triangles.
In the future I will continue to work hard and after each test I will work even
harder than the last. My weaknesses for this class were remembering the formulas,
when to use the formulas, conditional statements, constructing a perpendicular bisector
with a compass, getting point-slope form with slope-intercept form confused, how far
away does the polygon need to be for that transformation from the x and y axes, making
a circle inside the triangle, and making a circle around the triangle. I did pass most of

my tests. My strengths for this chapter were rise over run aka slope, knowing which
transformation, triangle, telling which similarity that the triangle was, the ability to name
the polygon, and count their sides, and Pythagorean Theorem. In conclusion I did learn
that you do have to stay on top of your work no matter what class you are taking, and
also dont go ahead unless you know what you are doing. If you go ahead and not
knowing what youre up against it will hurt you in the long run. You also dont want to fall
behind in the class either. To some people this whole class could either be real hard,
real easy, easy or just plain hard. You have to do the work, try your hardest, make good
grades, and pay attention it will pay off in the long run and you will pass this class.
