Floridaisoneofonlythreestates(FL,KY,IA)thathasalifetimebanonvoting
afterapersonisconvictedofafelony.

Thisamendmentupdatesourcriminaljusticesystemtomatchthestandardsin
otherstates,sothatafterapersonconvictedofafelonycompletesalltermsof
theirsentenceincludingparoleorprobation

theyearntheirrightsback.

Americansbelieveinsecondchancesandthatpeopleshouldbeabletoearn
forgivenessbycompletingthetermsoftheirsentence.

Restoringapersonsrighttovotegivesthemanopportunityforredemptionanda
chancetobefullmembersoftheircommunity.

StudiesbytheFloridaParoleCommissionshowthatpeoplereturningfromprison
whocanvotearelesslikelytocommitcrimesinthefuture.

Byhelpingpeoplebecomeresponsiblecitizens,wecreatesafercommunities
andsavetaxpayersmoneybykeepingpeoplefromreturningtoprison.

Thisamendmentwouldnotapplytothoseconvictedofmurderorsexual
offenses,whowouldcontinuetobepermanentlybarredfromvotingunlessthe
GovernorandCabinetvotetorestoretheirvotingrightsonacasebycasebasis.
