Assessment 3 Part A Gary Hole

Statement Outlining the Integration of Three ICT Resources

as Learning Tools
This statement will outline the Four forms of ICT we have chosen to integrate into teaching.
These resources vary in their abilities to provide meaningful thinking and learning
experiences in the classroom. The forward planning documents provide only an outline of the
lesson structures and when each ICT resource will be implemented and why. This statement
will provide the reasons, as to why each ICT resource was chosen, the role they will play in
learning and the ways in which they will provide higher levels of thinking, analysis, problemsolving and opportunities for creativity.

Spiderscribe
The first resource the students will have a chance to learn from is Spiderscribe. Spiderscribe
is a mind mapping tool that is perfect for planning, organising, brainstorming and structuring
ideas and thoughts. Spiderscribe will be used in the first lesson as a way for the teacher to
gain insight into the students prior knowledge on Recycling and Recyclable objects and
materials. The resource will also provide the students with the opportunity to create a fluent
and neat brainstorm/mind map. In this context, an emphasis will be placed on the
organisation of ideas. Students will be encouraged not only to record random pieces of
knowledge they may have, but to attempt to sort them into categories and subcategories. This
emphasis builds on the students critical thinking skills. Students will be encouraged via this
process to think about the similarities between certain pieces of information, how they may
relate to or affect other things. The students will be paired or in small groups, and will be able
to share and relate ideas with one another. This experience will also provide opportunities to
learn personal and social competencies.

Comic-Life | (I-pad App)

In Lesson two, the students will be working with the Comic-Life app on the I-pads. This
learning experience allows the students the opportunity to work with portable devices to build
and create. The resource will be used as the main lesson activity. Students will be tasked to
take the knowledge that they have gained on the recycling process of different materials and
to create a brief comic-strip illustrating step-by-step this process in action. The students gain
valuable skills in utilising the device and the application. Mobile learning can be defined as
learning across multiple contexts, through social and content interactions, using personal

electronic devices. The use of the Comic-Life app will provide a fun and engaging way for
the students to gain mobile learning experience. This resource provides a heavy emphasis on
the creativity side of learning which is immensely important in the Australian Curriculum.

Book-Creator
The Book-Creator app is also used on a portable device (the I-pad). In Lesson Three, the students will
be taught about how organic matter is recycled, what chemical changes take place and how they can
be used to our benefit. A main feature of this lesson will be the worm-farm the students will have a
chance to observe and learn about. The main activity of the lesson will be to take their new knowledge
on the worm and its importance in organic recycling (in compost situations) and create a brief 1st
person narrative based on the life / or day in the life of a worm. The students will be able to use BookCreator to compile and share this narrative. Students can edit and annotate each others books

and with the combine books feature, students can collaborate on a single book across
tablets, classes and even across countries.

Glogster
Throughout the four lessons the students will be required to record important information
they have learnt to their pre-assigned Glogster profiles. In the Fourth and final lesson,
Glogster will be the ICT resource integrated into the students learning. Glogster is an online
tools that allows students and teachers to create projects, collaborate online and build
presentations. The students will use Glogster in lesson four to create an informative poster
using the information they have gained on Chemical Changes and how they can be used to
benefit people in recycling. Glogster will be the perfect resource for the students to bring
together their acquired knowledge to create an informative poster. Research indicates that
web-based tools can support student learning, specifically the development of critical reading
skills and the ability to evaluate online texts, and provide opportunities for students to write
texts for authentic purposes (Handsfield, Dean, & Cielocha, 2009; Larson, 2010; Zawilinski,
2009).
