My Art Piece The Media

What is the chosen political topic?
The impact of media on todays youth.
List the information from the news source that informs/influences your decision to select
this topic (be specific, use quotes and cite the quotes). Provide a link, or a citation to/of the
source.
Highlighted quotes from the article:
Attractive role models are the aggressors in more than 80% of music video violence. Males are
more than three times as likely to be the aggressors; blacks were overrepresented and whites
underrepresented.
The effect of violent video games on children has been a public health concern for many
years Some video games may help the development of fine motor skills and coordination, but
many of the concerns about the negative effects of television (eg, inactivity, asocial behaviour
and violence) also apply to excessive exposure to video games.
Television has the potential to generate both positive and negative effects, and many studies
have looked at the impact of television on society, particularly on children and adolescents. An
individual childs developmental level is a critical factor in determining whether the medium will
have positive or negative effects. Not all television programs are bad, but data showing the
negative effects of exposure to violence, inappropriate sexuality and offensive language are
convincing.

Describe what you would like to create (be specific in size/material(s)) you may need to do
some research or speak to me about your idea before completing this step.
I would like to create a stencil of an original piece by me, which would inform people that the
media has changed the youth. Using different symbols from social media to create a face, I feel
as though I would be able to effectively show that we have not only been greatly influenced by
the media, but that we have morphed into the media. By using a stencil, I will be able to put up
my work on public places (with permission) to allow people of the community to see my work,
also, allowing the message to be broadcasted on a larger scale.
Where will it go?

Urban Art Proposal

I wish to put up my art piece around the outside of the school. This allowing the students of
Richmond Green (also other outsiders) to see and contemplate the meaning of my work and their
opinion on the changing of todays youth due to the media.
In this space who will see the work?
This work of art will be seen by the students of RGSS, and also people passing by.
What around the work could alter/skew the message (think about the landscape and
signs/buildings/posters)?
I feel as though putting up on a school would slightly alter the message, seeing as schools do not
encourage the use of social media during school time.
What category does the work fit into?
I feel as though my work is on the fine line between illegal and legal. My work will use spray
paint (which would then make it considered vandalism), but the form of spray paint I will be
using, (chalk spray paint) can easily come off (making it not permanent).
