Beginning next week (January 26th-30th), students will be constructing a recycled art structure that
supports our social studies instruction. We will be combining the two content areas in this creative
project. In social studies, students have learned about the dwellings of the Plains Indians; the tipi and
the earthlodge. Students will need to choose which dwelling they will be creating using recycled
materials, following the list of expectations below.
Construction of the dwellings will begin in class on Monday, January 26 th with the
expected completion date of Friday, January 30th.
Students will need to gather recycled materials from home and bring them into the
classroom.
If there is a material that may be difficult for students to cut or maneuver on their
own in the classroom, please do this at home prior to sending it to school.
The project will be completed at school, so materials will need to be brought in.
Any leftover materials will be recycled here at school unless otherwise noted by the
student/parent.
Please do not purchase any materials specifically for the dwellings. Part of the
objective of this project is finding recycled materials like, cereal boxes, buttons,
leftover foil, etc.
The size of the project should be small enough to fit on the students desktop.
Materials from nature and food items are allowed, but should be kept at a minimum.
Adhesives like glue and staples are acceptable and will be provided at school.
Any other specific questions about the project should be brought to Ms. Amen.
Attached you will find the grading rubric for this integrated project.
