Job Description

Researches, designs, develops, and tests


operating systems-level software, compilers,
and network distribution software for medical,
industrial, military, communications,
aerospace, business, scientific, and general
computing applications. Sets operational
specifications and formulates and analyzes
software requirements. May design embedded
systems software. Applies principles and
techniques of computer science, engineering,
and mathematical analysis.

BothTraining- Software engineers must stay on the cutting edge of
technology in order to keep their skills relevant and up to
date. This is both a pro and a con. It is a con in that it
sometimes requires time off the clock to stay current, and a
pro in that most companies pay for formal training oriented
toward new technology and skills

You would sit most of the time. There's some walking and
standing. You may have to lift and carry things like books,
papers or tools weighing 10 lbs. or less.

Bachelor's degree

Software developers usually have a bachelor's degree,


typically in computer science, software engineering, or a
related field. A degree in mathematics is also acceptable.
Computer science degree programs are the most
common, because they tend to cover a broad range of
topics. Students should focus on classes related to
building software in order to better prepare themselves
for work in the occupation. For some positions, employers
may prefer a master's degree.
