unfamiliar words.
Taught on 9/25
Students have prior experience with the word study letters from the days before.
Students are focusing on words that start with the letter Gg and Tt. Students will be
told that words that start with the letter Gg and Tt are all around them!
Active Learning
When the directions are all given, students will be let go and will be able to write
down all of the words they see in the classroom (environmental print). The words
have to be written for students to write them down. Students will first search for
words around the room that start with the letter Gg. Students will search the room
independently for about 5 minutes and then will be asked to sit back down in their
seats. Once students are done sharing what words they found in the classroom,
then students will find and write down words on their letter detective sheet that
start with the letter Tt. After about 5 minutes, students will then go back to their
seats and share what words they found with the class. The letter detective sheet
will be collected and looked at after students have completed them.
Assessment: Teacher will be walking around and listening to students language.
Teacher will also be checking the students letter detective sheet to see if they are
spelling the words they find correctly. All words should be spelled correctly since
students will be copying the words down from the classroom walls. This is also a
good time to see if students are switching their letters or writing their letters
backwards.
Reflect
Teacher will ask the student to share the words they found while being letter
detectives! This is so the teacher can reinforce to students that words are
everywhere! Students are told that there are words that start with the letters G and
T everywhere! Students are told to look out for words and things in their
environmentat home and at schoolthat start with the letters G or T.
