Herbst Seminar for Faculty and Staff:

Wednesdays, Feb. 11-25, 2015 in ECOT 831, 12:00-12:50 PM

Join new Herbst faculty member Andrea Kowalchuk for a
discussion of Euripides

Hecuba

Is there room for nobility in the realm of politics and war, or are all
men driven by necessity? Are the weak at the mercy of the
strong? How much suffering can a human being endure before
losing her humanity? In Euripides Hecuba, we encounter the
fallen Trojan queen who has lost everything, and who desperately
tries to save her daughters life by securing the aid of Greek
soldiers. As she experiences tremendous suffering, we see her
question men and gods, ultimately seeking revenge by her own
hand.
