Task 1 - Arriving in the USA
1. Tell students that On the Plane and immediately before crossing the border into the United
States, a flight attendant gives passengers two different forms to complete on the airplane
before the plane lands. These forms are:
• I-94
• Customs declaration
2. Divide students into pairs and give each pair a copy of I-94 form and a copy of Customs
declaration Form. They are real sample forms students have to complete. Read with
students all the instructions the forms have and clarify unknown vocabulary. (Separated files:
The Terminal 01 i94 and The Terminal 01 customs)

3. Play scene 1 and freeze at 0:00:28. Students will be able to see the Departures Notice and
check the answers of activity 1.

Activity 2
If you arrive at the Airport you must pass through Passport Control, Baggage Reclaim Area
and Customs immediately after leaving your plane.
5. Ask each pair of students to write the possible questions for each area. Encourage students
to share them with the rest of the class.
6. Tell students we will focus on Passport Control Area and we will listen to the questions
actually asked by Immigration Inspectors in an Airport.
7. Play scene 1 with sound on but without subtitles and ask students to concentrate on the
questions asked by Customs Officers while watching.
8. Ask students to compare the questions they have previously thought in activity 2 with the
ones heard in the film.
9. Play the scene again with sound on and English subtitles so that students can check the
questions asked by Immigration Inspectors.
10. Ask students the following question: What happens if something irregular is detected with
your passport?
Task 3 - Optional
1. Dramatisation: In an Airport.
2. Some students can be Immigration Inspectors, some Airline Representatives, some
Customs Officers and some can be passengers that arrive in the USA.
