workingfortheArmyandNavy,alongwithother
employers.Ineededajob.Iwasservingontheboardof
thePTSAatmydaughter'sschool.Theprincipalsaidhe
hadafewpositionsopen,soIappliedandwashiredas
thepermanentsub.Ilaterbecamethebookkeeperand
servedinthatpositionforseveralyears.
MythenprincipalencouragedmetoapplyforteachingpositionssinceIhada
masters'degree.Ididandreceivedmytemporarycertificate.Iwasthena
rookieteacheratage50!Istartedinareadingclassroom,thenmovedto
LanguageArts,thenontoESEshelteredandfinallyreturnedtoahomein
reading.
AllofthoseyearswerespentattheschoolmychildrenattendedinApopka.
Finally,I"graduated"fromthatmiddleschooltogotoanothermiddleschool
asthereadingcoach.

KG:Historicalfictionismyfavoritegenre.Iamcurrentlyreadingabookthat
iscenteredintheNativeAmericanculturalcenterofCahokia.Justpriorto
thatone,IreadaseriesofthreeontheIroquois.Myhusbandcallsthemmy
"greatsquirrel"books,andIhavebeenreadingforyears.Ialsohaveread
severalBritishandNorsebooksoverthesummer.Thatwasafterspending
severalyearsreadingYoungAdultbooks.Ifitwasaboutadystopiansociety,
Iprobablyreaditwithmystudents!
