The controversy created by the emails | forwarded has made my continued role here in the Department impossible. | recognize that this thoughtless act has legitimately insulted members of our community and for this | cannot fully express my regrets and | offer my sincerest apology to anyone who feels wronged. | have spent my entire 35 year career dedicated to serving and protecting all members of our village, including protecting the rights of an African-American man who was wrongfully arrested by the very police officers who | believe are now working so hard to disparage me. | hope that the residents of our village will remember the many improvements we have been able to make in the Police Department and the sense of pride and professionalism that we have worked so hard to restore since | was appointed Chief. My retirement will be effective March 1, 2015, however, since | will be taking the next two weeks vacation, today will be my last day in the office.
