Setting

The setting is a Malay village which is representative of a lof of Malay village

s nowadays as a result of development and change.IT contrasts the village of old
in which nature abounds with flowers and dewdrops and rain and sunsets.
The flute talked about in the poem is made of bamboo,which is reminiscent of tr
adition and old values.This traditional,happy village has gone.The village has n
o life now.It has become old,quite and deserted.
Perhaps young people,who are unemployed have gone to the towns to find jobs.The
paddy fields are not being planted now as there are not many people left to work
the fields.It is a very bleak and despondent and hopeless setting.
