learned on nutrition.
3. Begin researching something that deals with nutrition. Discuss it in class next
time in more detail.
V. Evaluation
A. How will student learning be measured:
a. Give them information from lecture today so that they can have a better
understanding.
b. Have them begin to research eating disorders or disease that is a cause of poor
nutrition
B. Re-teaching procedures if necessary:
a. Cover more on the importance of nutrition. Give more time in class for the
students to ask questions.

Concept to be taught:
A. Today in class, we will be doing research. My concept is to show the students how to
research topics on Nutrition. Each student has to choose something they want to talk
about and then present it in class. This teaches the students ownership and how to do
thing on their own without someone else doing it for them.
Instructional objectives:
A. Student understanding nutrition in ways that can help prevents harmful conditions to
their bodies.
a. Students looking up diseases, disorders, and health concerns that are
cause by not eating healthy.
Materials needed:
A. Computer Lab
Classroom teaching strategies and procedures:
A. Anticipatory Set:
1.
Have the students go to the computer lab for class. Begin with explaining
what their assignment is for that class period.
B. Student Learning Activities:
1.
Get the class to research the importance of healthy and non-healthy foods.
(Ownership) Get the students to look for certain points then write about it.
a. Compare and contrast
i. Facts of healthy foods
ii. Facts of non-healthy foods
iii. Give a brief summary of what you learned from your research.
b.
Interpret the statement "You are what you eat"
i. Junk foods vs. healthy foods
ii. Inappropriate vs. appropriate caloric intake
iii. Saturated and healthy fat
c.
Explain the relationship of a balanced nutrition program and essential
nutrients to appropriate weight, appearance, energy level and total
wellness.
d.
Evaluate how individual food choices are influenced by multiple
factors.
e.
Describe body composition and eating disorders.
C. Conclusion:
1.
Have a class discussion on the research they found.
D. Activity Extension:
1.
Get students to read article found on nutrition.
Evaluation
A. How will student learning be measured:
1. Have a class discussion on the research students found.
2. Get them to ask questions if they dont fully understand about certain eating
disorders or diseases that are caused by poor nutrition.
B. Re-teaching procedures if necessary:

1.

Cover more on the importance of nutrition. Give more time in class for
the students to ask questions.

A. Today in class we will be learning about the different ways of not eating healthy can
hurt our bodies. There are three main point that we will discuss in class: 1.
Understand the complexity of eating disorders and their possible causes; 2.understand
that there are identifiable symptoms of the most prevalent eating disorder;
3.understand that help is available for prevention and treatment of eating disorders.
Instructional Objectives:
A. Students will learn why nutrition is important for their health and why poor nutrition
causes eating disorders and other diseases.
Materials Needed:
A. Computer Lab
Classroom teaching strategies and procedures:
A. Anticipatory Set:
1.
Class discussion:
a. Ask what the students know about eating disorders, or other harmful
causes such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and any other disease
that may occur from a non-proper healthy diet.
B. Student Learning Activity:
1.
Head to the computer lab and have students research eating disorders,
disease or other causes due to poor nutrition.
a. Define the most prevalent eating disorders: anorexia and bulimia or
disease.
i. What are their symptoms?
ii. Address some causes such as pressures from society and family
and genetic predisposition.
iii. Present the medical complications that often result from eating
disorders and diseases,
iv. Explain how these diseases can be life threatening.
v. Describe prevention and early detection.
vi. Explain different methods of treating eating disorders and
diseases.
2.
This will help the students get a better understanding for their
project/presentation that is coming up in the next class.
C. Conclusion:
1.
Ask questions
a. What did you learn from your research?
b.
What are some ways that we discussed in class that can affect your
health?
D. Activity Extension:
1.
Give them articles to read or get in groups and discuss what they
researched.
Evaluation:
A. How will student learning be measured:
1.
Have them to start researching information for their project that we will
begin the next class time.

a.

Nutrition project (Ownership)

i. Get them to choose a something that deals with nutrition and
how it can affect our health.
1.
Eating disorders
2.
Diets and diseases that are caused when not eating
healthy
3.
How eating healthy can affect an athlete.
B. Re-teach procedure if necessary:
1.
Allow more time to do some more research so they can have a better
understanding of poor nutrition versus healthy nutrition.

Nutrition

I. Goals:
A. Explain what nutrition is and how it is in relation to our health.

B. Evaluate how individual food choices are influenced by multiple factors.

C. Describe body composition and eating disorders.
II. Specific ways to integrate subjects to curriculum: There are many ways to integrate
Nutrition into other subjects. First, you are doing research which is part of English. It is teaching
how to do different types of research that is not a book but still a credible source. For math, you
have to find the different types of calorie counts, carbohydrates, and fats plus much more.
Integrating nutrition into anatomy, you are finding the different body composition and diseases
that are caused by not eating healthy and what is does to your body.
III. Grade level/subject: High School Health
IV. Activities Planned:
A. Videos give a good explanation of nutrition and how it affects your body when not
eating healthy.
B. Worksheets that will help the students to get a full understanding of nutrition. Many
students learn better with visual than auditory.
C. Research on nutrition.
a. Importance of healthy/non-healthy foods
b. Compare and contrast with a brief summary on research
V. Assessment of learner understanding:
A. Test
B. Project
C. Peer group/ class discussion
D. Worksheets
E. Questions to start of the class
