The Fictional Terrors That Blanket Our World
Living in a limbo between reality and fiction is hazardous. It may lead to dangerous and
careless actions by anyone. The fictional characters that have been formed and have continuously
been added on to cause many influenceable people to believe that they are non-fictional. Through
the internet these stories spread like wildfire, inhabiting the brains of children enforcing fantasies
of their own to form.
Along with savage video games fictional characters such as the fan-fiction of Slenderman
provoke violence. Because of the international connections over the internet people worldwide
are able to communicate and develop fantasies. These reveries spawn violent behaviors and
attitudes towards reality.
The fan-fiction of Slenderman shepherd two 12 year-old girls in Waukesha, WI to an
attempted murder. The two girls had stabbed their friend to prove themselves worthy of
Slenderman. They guided her to a quiet part in the woods at a National Park where they were
playing hide and seek (Jones). The internet has played to how people communicate and how they
react to certain situations in their lives.
It is not only Slenderman that influences, many other fantasies do too. These stories plant
themselves into our minds, they cause thoughts that lead to tragic incidents. Graphics show
unrealistic lives that are looked up to by todays society, we have learned to judge ourselves off
of television stars and photoshopped models. Along with these people we have virtual reality

video games with perfectly shaped people to star in them to base ourselves off of. Because of
these judgements people have lost confidence in themselves and think less of themselves. This
causes depression and other mental illnesses that are likely to cause teasing.
Even though the video games enhance the different parts of the brain and cause them to
work and exercise in different ways they simulate violent thoughts and actions. The video games
encourage violent behaviors and actions. Do to this encouraged violence the teens will become
less social and insecure to their environments.
As the world moves forward in the discoveries of technology and its uses we will come
across more and more of the opportunities to create new video games with even more graphics.
The realism in the games becomes so real that you feel like you in the game, living in Limbo. Do
you want to live in Limbo forever or go out into the world and make history with the different
things you do to revitalize society?
