During our inquiry this unit, we will be focusing on the following learner profile
traits, attitudes and transdisiplinary skills

significance. In so doing, we will acquire in-depth knowledge and develop an

Writing Content and Conventions

Participate in shared research and writing projects and record science


observations. Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English
capitalization, punctuation and spelling when writing
Use a known root word as a clue to meaning of compound words (birdhouse,
lighthouse, housefly, bookshelf)

Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to clarify
comprehension, gather additional information, or deepen understanding of a
topic or issue.
Mathematics Outcomes

Use addition to find the total number of objects arranger in rectangular


arrays with up to 5 rows and 5 columns; write an equation to express the total
as sum of equal addends.
Recall all doubling facts to 40
Identify and represent simple fractions with denominators up to 10 using
manipulatives, pictures and fractional notation
Solve simple put together, take apart and compare problems using data
presented in various forms
Use every day comparative language and number to describe self-generated
data
Use IT to organize data

Science Outcomes

Use a variety of instruments and tools to measure data accurately


Use scientific vocabulary to explain their observations and experiences
Identify or generate a question or problem to be explored

Activities/Projects/Connections:
How the world works Unit of inquiry: Form Students will create individualized Eduardo
Paolozzi inspired artwork with various art materials. This art will be observed and shared.
Various elements of successful composition will be discussed, analyzed, and utilized by
students.
Music
Learning Objectives: In Unit 4- The students will be able to:

Create xylophone melodies with correct technique


Use non-traditional music notation to notate pitches on xylophone
Read and play rhythms with quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests on the
xylophone
Cooperate with classmates in musical games and activities

Engagements/Projects/Connections:

Play up and down on the xylophone with Mortimer


Create compositions with the xylophone, focusing on cross-overs (Left-Right-Left)
Play rhythmic and melodic ostinato to accompany pieces like Dem Bones
Play Mallet Madness, answering questions about xylophones and playing
rhythms/techniques

P.E.
Learning Objectives: In Unit 4 The students will be able to:

To explore the techniques within the different areas of Athletics. e.g. - high jump,
javelin, shot put.
Breaking down the different techniques used in Athletics.
Developing the childrens physical and mental endurance.
Preparing the children for sports day.
Understanding how to work in teams and in a competitive environment.

Activities/Projects/Connections:

Students will work on circuit based activities to help them develop the skills required
for the different athletic events.
Students will use peer assessment sheets to help evaluate others performances
