Dear Portfolio Committee:
It is with great respect and admiration that I write this letter of promise for
my colleague, classmate, and friend. Over the course of the Student
Development Administration (SDA) program, I have had the pleasure to get
to know Domonique Crosby on a personal and professional level. Through our
relationship, I have benefited from her insight, passion for student success,
and professional integrity. Although Domonique has many redeeming and
promising professional characteristics, I most admire her commitment to
multicultural competence, her ability to build meaningful relationships with
students, and her leadership skills.
Domoniques commitment to diversity and multicultural competence first
became apparent to me in the Fall 2013 quarter, when we took SDAD 577:
Foundations of Student of Affairs. Over the course of the quarter, students
were required to develop their own unique educational philosophy.
Throughout her philosophy, Domonique underscored the importance of
making higher education accessible and equitable for communities of color.
Additionally, Domoniques dedication to diversity extends beyond her own
salient identities. In EDUC 520 (Social Justice), Domonique worked with a
group of SDA students to develop a comprehensive leadership development
curriculum for LGBTQ community organizers in the Pacific Northwest. These
are just two of the many ways in which Domonique has prioritized diversity
and multicultural competency. I can confidently say that in the future, she
will continue to support underrepresented populations.
Perhaps the professional characteristic I admire most about Domonique is
her ability to build meaningful relationships with students. Domoniques
interactions with students go beyond a superficial, transactional level. She
connects with students in a way that is genuine and meaningful. Students
respect and love for Domonique is apparent on the Seattle University
campus; everywhere she goes, students stop her to have a conversation or
check in. Moreover, Domoniques relationship with the Resident Advisors and
Desk Assistants in her residence hall are noteworthy. In order to build a
cohesive, effective team of undergraduate staff, Domonique understands the
importance of creating meaningful relationships founded in trust and mutual
respect. Her capacity to build such profound relationships is undoubtedly one

of the biggest reasons she makes such a competent and successful student
affairs practitioner.
Lastly, I could not comment on Domoniques professional promise without
mentioning her stellar leadership qualities. Over the course of the SDA
Program, Domonique has managed a graduate assistantship in Residence
Life, served on several committees, acted as the Community Involvement
Chair for SUSDA, regularly mentored students in the Black Student Union,
and juggled two internships. In all of these roles, Domonique confidently
worked to make the organizations goals a reality. Through a combination of
action, collaboration, and a commitment to a collective vision, Domonique
successfully leads with compassion and grace.
For the reasons mentioned above, I can confidently say that Domonique
exhibits the promise to become a leader in the field of student affairs. It has
been a pleasure to learn and grow from someone as dedicated as
Domonique. Domonique will undoubtedly achieve many milestones as a
professional, and I look forward to witnessing her success as our friendship
continues to grow.
Sincerely,
Bobby Helton
