Subcategory: R-7-2 Demonstrate ability to provide educational services and
in-services for individuals, families, and groups.

One significant learning experience I had in this course was being able to know
how to do a teaching plan for a target population. Identifying the specific
approaches or strategies to be used for your target population so that they will
be able to comprehend what you are teaching and for them to be able to apply
what you have taught them afterwards. For example in my paper since my
target population are school age children, aged 6-11 yrs. old I chose to use
lecture and return demonstration as my teaching strategies because according
to Pilliteri school-age children enjoy short projects that offer an immediate
reward while according to Lipe and Bisley Lecture works well with lowerlevel cognition objectives, it is a cost-effective method to deliver instruction to
large groups, the message reaches more in a timely manner and it is good for
background material. For my teaching resource I used videos because
according to Potter and Perry in this stage children achieve the ability to
perform mental operations.
I learned that to be able to come up with a good teaching plan you should
know what kind of strategy or approach you have to use to be able to attain
your objectives. Its meaningful because if you know what approaches you
can use in a certain group or topic you will become a better advocate or
health educator to your target population.
I would rate myself as excellent in being able to demonstrate my ability to
provide educational services and in-services for individuals, families, and
groups. In saying this, I understand the competency in theory and nursing
practice. Furthermore, to achieve this competency, I have read the chapter in
Critical Thinking by Bisley and Lipe regarding teaching plans, I also read the
Community Health Nursing book by Lancaster and Stanhope and I also
watched videos regarding approaches/ strategies that may be used during my
health teachings.

I will apply what I have learned about the different health promotion
approaches to be able to determine what strategy I should use during my
