It defiaes usual and unusual service conditions, and gives bases for rating such devices. Specifications are given for temperature limitations, dicleciric tests, routine tess, losses and impedance measurements, and consiraction items. ©Copyright 1972 by ‘The Instifute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Ine 345 Rast 47th Street, New York, NY 10017, USA No part of tis publication may be reproduced in any form, in an electronic retrieval system or otherwise, witheur (prior written permission of the publisher Foreword ‘This standard is a revision of ATE Standard 32, 1947, to which many changes and additions have been made. ‘This siandand was developed by the Neutral Grounding Subcommitiee of the Surge Protective Devices Committee of the TEEE Power Engineering Society. General 1.1 Scope ‘This standard applies to devices used forthe purpose of contilling the ground custeat or the potentials to ground of ‘an alternating current system. These devices are: grounding transformers, ground-fault neutralizer, resistors, reactors, capacitors, or combinations of thes. 1.2 Service Conditions 4.2.4 Usual Temperature and Altitude Service Conditions. Devices conforming to this standard shall be suitable for operation at ther ratings provided that: 1) The temperature of the cooling air (ambient temperature) does not exceed 4U*C and the average temperature of the cooling sir for any 24-hour period does not exceed 30°C. NOTE — leis avonsnoded dha the avocagetenpecante ofthe cooling ache calculated by avecsping 4 consscuive hourly readings. When de ouoor air ise cooling medium, the average of the maxim. and minima daily temperances may be used. The vate whichis stained inthis mannee is usually sahty higher than the tue day average but aot by more than °C. 2) The altitude docs not exceed 3300 f(1DD0 mm, 4.2.2 Unusual Temperature and Altitude Service Conditions Devices conforming to this standard may be applied to higher ambient temperates or at higher altitudes than specified in 12.1, but their perfomance will be affected and special consideration should be given 1 these applications.
