Spatial Interaction (Movement & Migration)
Bangkok, Thailand
Sex slaves show up at night
Majority of human trafficking happens in Thailand
Grace Hotel middle eastern ties
Shift the past few years from 4-5 people on the street to 80 at one time.
Often the girls are threatened and trapped in the business and unable to get
out.
Plattaya another location of the Uzbek ring where slaves are transported
The documentary does a good job of addressing the problem of human trafficking. It
is quite obvious that the people working towards stopping it are passionate about
what they do and credible. I think that the video documented and showed a lot of
the action that goes on every day and gave the viewer a pretty good idea of how
human trafficking works. It gave personal stories of women who are affected by this
and have been deceived and forced to work and it is hard to imagine that there are
thousands of women in the same position. Also, there were a lot of statistics given
that showed how large this business has become. It amazed me that this is a $32
billion industry and it is so hard to take down. After watching the documentary, it is
pretty obvious to me that human trafficking is a huge issue in parts of the world and
a lot of people do not realize it. Businesses like this are taking over cities and
lowering the views and values of society.
Top Human Trafficking destinations are:
Belgium, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Thailand, Turkey, USA
After doing research it was surprising to see that there are so many countries
spread out in different continents across the world involved in this.
Globalization has played a role in human trafficking as there are three pieces to the
industry: source countries, transit countries, and destination countries. And almost
every country in the world is involved in one or more of these areas. As the industry
grows, so has the sources of women and the destinations where they are brought.
For example, in the documentary it started in Bangkok and the Uzbek ring expanded
to Plattaya. The globalization of human trafficking has only increased the amount of
slaves and number of countries involved making the industry harder to stop and the
problem larger.
