Acts of Terrorism against

Americans in United Arab
Emirates
Recently, a Romanian-born schoolteacher,
Ibolya Ryan, 47, who had become an American
citizen was stabbed to death by a veiled attacker
in a public bathroom in Boutik Mall in Abu Dhabi.
Not to mention, Ryan was a mother of three.

The photograph above was captured

at the scene.
According to an employee at Boutik Mall, the
suspect had pretended to be an elderly woman
who needed a helping hand to use the toilet. In this
case, Ryan helped her. In order for the suspect to
be certain of Ibolyas nationality, they conversed
for a while. Once certain Ryan was American, the
suspect then shoved her inside the toilet stall

and stabbed her in the chest with a butcher

knife. The mall employee also said that this
caused the other women inside the restroom
instantly.2 Ryan then ended up in her own pool
of blood once she dragged herself out of the
cubicle, into the open space of the bathroom. It
turns out that her 11 year old twins were with
her that day, and had been patiently waiting for
her outside the bathroom where she was killed
that day. According to the father of these
children, Ryans ex husband, the boys did not
hear her cries out for help.3
Many people have approved of the
attacks and believed it is a sign that
Judgement Day is near, The epic of Dabiq. In
Islamic eschatology, it is believed that Dabiq is
one of two possible locations for an epic battle
between invading Christians and the defending
Muslims which will result in a Muslim victory
and mark the beginning of the end of the world.
Also, many social media users that believe that
it was a sign that Judgement Day is nearby
have started a hashtag labeled the epic of
Dabiq.
Many other US citizens who live in in
United Arab Emirates are now thinking about
moving out of their homes there and leaving
the country. "A Canadian who lives in the

MAN VS MAN
Here in the US, you dont hear
much about woman being stoned or
flogged as a punishment. If anything, you
hear about how many well known female
celebrities, even males, are striving for
civil rights. More so, womens rights. In
many countries, specifically Muslim, the
Sharia Law is a serious source of
legislation and proposes that harsh
punishment to be legally acceptable.1
Those countries consist of Saudi Arabia,
Sudan, Iran, United Arab Emirates,
Qatar, and Brunei.

The concept of crime, judicial

process, justice and punishment embodied
in sharia is different from that of secular
law. The differences between sharia and
secular laws have led to an ongoing
controversy as to whether sharia is
compatible with secular forms of
government, the human right "freedom of
thought," and in general "women's rights."2

I believe that harsh discipline like stoning a

woman for her actions is morally
unacceptable. It makes no sense on why
Muslim women are treated this way compared
to the Muslim men. What they are showing
here is that men are more superior and they
are treated with the more respect than women.
Many would argue that the reason why
this law is tolerable is because it follows their
religion. However, there is no reason for this
type of torture. Why torture them till death?
For example, they are being thrown stones by
a crowd of people until they eventually die.
The sad part about this is the fact that not a
single person from that group can be classified
as the one who killed the individual.

In the UAE, Polygyny is legal. Meaning

the state or practice of having more than a wife
or female mate at a time.2 There really is no big
deal on having more than one wife or female
mate and should not be legal. It is only a
burden to the lower class families because that
means that the men have to work harder to
provide for them. For men, the only benefits of
polygyny are that it allows them to have more
children. Also, it may provide them with more
productive workers (where workers are family),
and allows them to establish politically useful
ties with a greater number of kin groups. 3 It is,
indeed, a very controversial topic.
