ABSTRACT
Lower respiratory infections occupy a high place in morbidity in children. Persistent symptoms and
their progression despite medicamental therapy strongly suggest supurative complications in
parenchyma 13, pleura or pericard. Methods of choice for diagnosis of these conditions are: Chest Xray$.Chest x-ray is a baasic method, follow by US which is superior in diagnosis of pleural effusion
and also the basal pneumonia and for necrosing pneumonia or abscess a CT is the superior method. In
a retrospective study of
1000 hospitalized children
aged 5-16
years,
an
occurrence of
complications during pneumonia in 50 children was determined. All complications were present
except pericarditis.
This paper did not include children with viral pneumonia, parasitic diseases (echinococcus),
tuberculosis and children with pneumonia after inhalation of foreign body
Key words: children, bacterial pneumonia, complications, x-ray, US, CT.
