Training Program Description

ure Romance is aimed at empowering women, starting with their new

consultants. Through this course new consultants will be prepared to
run their own successful Pure Romance business. Pure Romance
currently offers a Party School as an online training course. This New
Consultant Training Program is designed to work in conjunction with the Party
School to better prepare new consultants for running a successful business. The
Pure Romance New Consultant Training course will be a one day, eight hour
long extensive and intense training course. The course has solid goals and
objectives that are properly supported by the appropriate project-based
learning, collaborative learning, or encourage critical thinking skills. To ensure
that the adult learners for this training course will meet the set goals and
objectives specific instructional strategies, activities, and technologies have
been incorporated into the instructional design. The purpose of this training is
to educate new consultants on the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed
with their businesses:

A complete understanding of the companys policies and procedures

Identifying the resources available to them (i.e. online resources,

continued trainings, etc.)

A basic knowledge of the products

Tips, ideas, and resources for marketing their new business

How to hostess coach

How to organize their in-home parties (i.e. their product demonstration,

games to play, recruiting new consultants, and booking more parties)

Determining the learners approach to the instruction

Women who seek to educate, empower, and entertain other women.

including prerequisite knowledge, skills, and attitude toward the

task is an important part of effective design and development
(Brown & Green, 2011, pg. 71). The intended audience for this
training program is Pure Romance consultants, who are women
only, 18 years and older. These women come from all types of
cultures, religions, backgrounds, races, and religions. In order to
successfully deliver this training program the intended audience
must first be clearly outlined; determining the learners
approach to the instruction including prerequisite knowledge,
skills, and attitude toward the task is an important part of
effective design and development (Brown & Green, 2011, pg.
71). This training program will include a large and diverse target
audience with a number of similarities and a number of
differences.
These women will represent every ethnical, religious,
economical, socio, and cultural background. They will be single,
wives, mothers, working adults, and students. They will offer a
range of learning styles, ability levels, and developmental stages.
Each of them will have a different education levels, background,
and experiences. From new consultants freshly started to
veteran consultants trying to refresh their business these women
do have many similarities. They are all women, 18 and over, who
share the common goal of helping other women enhance their
relationships. They also have common personal goals that
include increased income and a flexible schedule. While these
consultants range across every spectrum of possible differences

important quality, they are voluntarily attending this training and

therefore are motivated by their own needs and wants to attend.
Although these new consultants create a very diverse learning
target they all share two very important traits which will allow
for the instructional design to be tailored to them: they are all
motivated by their personal desires (money, flexibility, fun, etc.)
and they are all dedicated to upholding the companys motto to
together we empower, educate, and entertain (Pure Romance,
2014).

Goals and Objectives

Goal #1 - New consultants will understand what is expected of a
Pure Romance consultant.
Objective #1 New consultants will demonstrate an
understanding of Pure Romances policies and procedures
by maintaining appropriate workplace behavior and attire
when conducting in-home demonstrations and otherwise
representing the company.
Objective #2 New consultants will exhibit knowledge on
all information about Pure Romances products such as
price, user information, and product specifications.
Goal #2 New consultants will attain the skills and confidence to
start and run their own business.
4

T R A I N I N G

Objective #1 New consultants will exhibit knowledge on

how to effectively use social media to promote their
business.
Objective #2 New consultants will create their own inhome party demonstration outline to include: hostess
coaching techniques, how their demonstration will
proceed, which products will be featured, and how to use
games to increase recruit and booking leads.

Scope of the Training Program

The majority of the New Consultant Training will be a traditional
directed learning environment. This training will also include
elements of an open-ended learning environment; there will be a
single complex problem and a specific task that the learners will
need to achieve in order to meet the trainings objectives: to
create their own in-home party demonstration plan. To meet the
learners needs and ensure that they meet the trainings goals
and objectives project-based learning and collaborative learning
skills will be used. Problem-based learning (PBL) activities will
be used to achieve most of the New Consultant Training
objectives because they are open-ended learning situations
(Brown & Green, 2011, pg. 121). The problem that will be
presented at the beginning of the training is How will you
construct your in-home party demonstration?. All of the training
information and activities will offer the tools, skills, and
resources for each new consultant to answer this question by the
end of the training course. The use of collaborative learning
skills will further support the training objectives. As Pure
Romance trainers like to say why reinvent the wheel. The
company provides each new consultant with electronic
resources, training, and team meetings to encourage information
sharing. The New Consultant Training will introduce the new
consultants to this wealth of information and resources.

Needs Analysis

Chapter

needs assessment should ideally be conducted as the

first step in responding to perceived needs (Royse,
2009, pg. 55). This training programs needs analysis
followed the eight steps in the needs assessment cycle
as outlined in Royse, Thyer, and Padgetts textbook Program
Evaluation:
1) Setting the parameters
2) Identifying the information to be collected
3) Determining if there is existing data
4) Constructing the methodology and instrumentation
5) Collecting and analyzing the data
6) Preparing the report
7) Sharing the preliminary results
8) Spreading the word
To successfully determine the need for this training program the
following widely used key techniques were used: questionnaires,
social indicators, and group sessions. The questionnaires were
emailed to 20 new consultants (active for less than 6 months)
and each was asked a series of questions (see the Proposed New
Consultant Questionnaire on page 5). The collected response was
that while the online Party School training was very helpful,
many of the new consultants desired a face-to-face training
opportunity. The most important aspects they wanted to see
included were a live party demonstration. They also expressed a

(see the Proposed New Consultant Questionnaire on page 5). The
collected response was that while the online Party School

they wanted were:

Social Indicators
The next step in the needs analysis was to use social indicators
to gauge what new consultants were in need of. The SLAMMERS
is a facebook page for a specific team of consultants. The
questions and concerns expressed on the page were examined to
see what the most common issues are for new consultants:

How to approach clients and potential customers

Group Sessions
The last step in the needs analysis was to arrange a group
session to discuss the needs of new consultants, but from the
perspective of team leaders. On March 19, 2015 twelve team
leaders (advanced consultant level and above) conducted a
meeting on Zoom to discuss what training their new consultants
were in need of. The outcomes of this showed a distinct need for
more training on:

Product knowledge

Policies and procedures.

Stakeholders and Goals

he stakeholders, both internal and external, for Pure

Romance are numerous. Mostly these are comprised of
consultants, as consultants are the first line of the
companys sales and advertising. Below are the main
six groups of stakeholders that will be affected by this training
program:

New Consultants This group is comprised of all new

consultants, new consultants are consultants who are
activated and have six months or less experience.

14

T R A I N I N G

P R O G R A M

P L A N

Team Leaders This group is comprised of consultants

who have at least three consultants in their first level
downline.

The Board of Directors - This group is comprised of

consultants who have met the following requirements:
$75,000 in personal sales, 16 new active consultants, and
$250,000 in team sales.

The Senior Board of Directors - This group is comprised of

consultants who have meet the following requirements:

The Executive Board of Director This group is comprised

of seven consultants who have been on the Senior Board of
Directors for a minimum of five consecutive years.

Pure Romance Corporate This group is comprised of

Patty Brisbane (the owner) and her board of directors.

Goals and Objectives

The goals and objectives for these six groups are exactly the
same:

15

T R A I N I N G

P R O G R A M

P L A N

To prepare new consultants

to educate, entertain, and
empower women.
New consultants are women
who are motivated to succeed
in their own business.
Building support from this
group will be done through
direct marketing. As they are
their own business they will be self-motivated to improve and
therefore will be motivated to attend this training program.
Team leaders desire to see their new consultants succeed and
will assist with motivating their downline. Building support
from this group will be a matter of communicating the
program to them.
The Board of Directors, Senior Board of Directors, and
Executive Board of Director are consultants who have grown
their business to the height of success. Building support from
them will be effortless as every one of them has been a new
consultant, has struggled in the beginning of their businesses,
and will want to offer every possible training to their teams
and new consultants. Each of these consultants has four
downlines on their team and their team sales depend upon the
success of the new consultants too.
Pure Romance corporate is the largest stakeholder in all of
this as they are the ones who will be footing the bill for the
training, planning the training, and if it is successful, reaping
the rewards of the training. Building support is not an issue
with this group because corporate is constantly looking for
any avenue to assisting with consultant success, because if the
consultants do not succeed and make money, than the
company does not succeed and make money.

Communication Plan

ure Romance corporate will marker the message of this

training program to all current consultants, both new
and old. By putting this training program information
out there to every consultant and having it
communicated to team leaders the interest will be built. Since
this is a voluntary, low cost training program there is no need to
force or encourage new consultants to register. Pure
Romance wants to see every consultant succeed and training is
one sure way to see this happen but the consultants must have
the commitment and drive to help themselves to succeed. There
will be no selection process. Instead on each consultants web
access to their Pure Romance log-in they can register for the
monthly trainings on a first-come first-serves basis. The
registration will remain open till the maximum 50 ladies have
been reserved. Although this training is aimed at new
consultants it is open to any consultants who need or want to
attend.

Benefits of the Training

The benefits of this training are:

Furthering new consultants knowledge of the company,

policies, and procedures

Assisting new consultants with their concerns about

starting their own business

Offering consultants new ideas and tips to make their

businesses successful

Providing training on how to increase their sales, parties,

and recruits

18

T R A I N I N G

P R O G R A M

P L A N

The New Consultant Training is an accelerated training course

offering a lot of information, as well as strenuous goals and
objectives. So the best instructional strategy approach for this
training is to include the commonsense considerations from the
field of instructional design to keep in mind (Wlodkowski &
Ginsberg, 2010, pg. 17):

Outline what the new consultants are to learn.

Have practical application of the information being

presented near the point of the initial discussion of those
ideas.

Offer skills and knowledge that are necessary for the

learning activities to come.

Keep each section simple; do not overload the new

consultants.

After the lecture sections of the training provide

activities for the new consultants to practice the new skills.

Promotional Channels and Materials

There are many promotional channels and materials in which
this New Consultant Training program will be marketed:

Corporate facebook page

Pure Romance COO (consultant online webpage)

Pure Romance monthly newsletter

These channels and materials are the most direct way in which
Pure Romance communicates with consultants. The first place to
be utilized is the COO; here consultants manage their business
on a daily basis so advertising the training program on the Home
page will ensure that it is in a high traffic area. Corporates
19

T R A I N I N G

P R O G R A M

P L A N

facebook page is another useful tool as most consultants have

liked this page, therefore all newsfeed will pop up on their
facebook page. The monthly newsletter is another good tool as it
is sent out to every consultant within the company.

Other avenues that will be used are word of mouth. This

channel will rely on the team leaders to promote and advertise
the trainings to their new consultants through:

Team facebook pages

Twitter accounts

Email

Team newsletters

Direct communication (i.e. messaging, phone, face-to-face)

These channels are going to be in many ways more effective than

the corporates marketing. This relies on the numerous different
teams to promote and communicate the training program with
their team members. Most team leaders will re-distribute the
channels provided by corporate such as reposting corporates
facebook newsfeed on their team pages and linking the COOs
registration page to their new consultants. Teams use many
different forms of communication and all of them will accomplish
the desired goal of reaching every new consultant.

Program Evaluation

rogram evaluation will determine whether or not the

New Consultant Training Program has meet the goals
and objectives outlined in this program plan. A
summative evaluation gathers information to answer
two questions: were the desired changes met and were the goals
met (Green & Brown, 2011). This instructional design plan will
implement one of the most cited summative evaluation
approaches, Kirkpatricks Four Levels of Evaluation. This model
has four levels:

Reactions Assessing the learners reaction to training.

Learning Assessing if the learners knowledge, skills, and

attitude were changed.

Transfer Assessing if the learners new knowledge, skills,

and attitude are being used in the real world.

Results Assessing if this is training is effective for the

business (i.e. sales, productivity, etc.)

21

T R A I N I N G

P R O G R A M

P L A N

An instructional designer examines the instructional goals and

objectives to determine what change the instruction is meant to
bring about. Is it a change in learner knowledge, skill, or
attitude? (Brown & Green, 2011, pg. 139). This training course
is aimed at providing new consultants with all three: new
knowledge, skills, and attitude. As the New Consultant Training
is a one-day accelerated learning experience that will continue
once a month, every month there are some limitations to the
evaluation. Many of the more traditional approaches
such as testing will not work for Asse
this training.
ss
Instead the course will approach the evaluation

by using a summative model.

Evaluation Tools
As stated above, this training will be to change the learners
knowledge, skills, and attitudes. In order to assess this, the
following evaluation instruments will be used:
Questionnaires At the beginning of the training (during the
registration period) all new consultants will be asked to fill out a
questionnaire to answer some basic questions and a rating scale
to assess their pre-training knowledge, skills, and attitude.

How long have you been a consultant?

Have you held your first party?

Have you had your first sale?

Survey The new consultants who participate in the training will

be given a survey at the end of the training course to assess any
changes in their post-training knowledge, skills, and attitude.

Survey and Questionnaire Another survey will be sent out to

each new consultant 30 days from the training course they
attended. This survey will assess how effective the training was
in their businesses in actual practice.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the

following:

Your enthusiasm for your new business?

Your understanding of Pure Romance policy

Kirkpatricks Four Levels of Evaluation. Each survey and

questionnaire focuses on assessing what the new consultants
thought (reaction) and what they learned (learning). The last
survey effectively assesses how the training affected their
business (transfer) and how it affects the corporation (results).

What the Results Say

Summative evaluations seek to decide on the programs future,
target those conducting the program or those funding it, use
external evaluations, and provide information on the program
(Green & Brown, 2011). This type of evaluation is good for
providing information to effectively affect instructional design in
the future. This evaluation is measuring the results, asking
questions such as what are the results and what is the cost.
Summative evaluations affect the instructional design process by
focusing on the end result and therefore in establishing goals
and objectives that can be measured.
For the New Consultant Training this evaluation will answer the
questions of whether the training is meeting the goals and
changes desired. It will also clearly outline where the new
consultant rate themselves before the training and where they
rate themselves 30 days after the training, after they have had a
chance to implement in the real world their newly acquired
skills, knowledge, and attitude. The surveys ask open-ended
questions about what they new consultants learned, what they
liked, and what they did not like about the training. These
answers will allow Pure Romance information to improve on the
New Consultant Training courses and make them as effective as
possible. The 30 day survey also evaluates how this training has
affected the new consultants business in terms of bookings,
sales, and recruits. These items are important for the new
consultants business but also for Pure Romance. More sales,
more bookings, and more recruits for the new consultant equal
more income for the company. The Pure Romance New
