Professional Development Plan

Goal Statement:
To develop and improve on my nursing skills, obtain experience, and expand my
knowledge as a registered nurse to be able to provide optimal patient care.
Clinical Practice:
Objective: To get accepted into a new graduate registered nurse program on
a labor and delivery unit.
Plan/Strategies: My plan is to pass the NCLEX by August 2015. I will request
letters of recommendations from my instructors and employers to help assist
me in as I apply for employment and new graduate programs at Kapiolani
Medical Center, Queens Medical Center, Castle, or Kaiser. I understand and
am willing to work as aide or ward clerk prior to getting hired as an RN at my
desired facility. I will also continue to develop great repute during clinical,
work, and while volunteering.
Strengths: I am eager to learn new things, adaptable, have good
communication skills, very personable, and a team player.
Skills/Competencies: I have been an LPN for the past 2 years working in
pediatrics specializing in tracheostomy care, vents, gtubes, and have
experience in home care.
Areas targeted for growth: I will expanding my knowledge and improving
skills as an RN by gaining experience in the work field, continuing with my
education and staying update on the latest developments in health.
Leadership:
Objective: Become a clinical instructor and/or charge nurse.
Plan/Strategies: I will gain experience and expanding my knowledge while
working as RN and continuing my education. I will also research and observe
the responsibilities of a charge nurse and clinical instructor. I will take
leadership classes and any other classes that will help assist me in a
leadership role. I will obtain a bachelors degree and shadow seasoned nurses
to gather different teaching technique and become familiar in conflict
management. I will stay up to date on medical, health, management, and
nursing news.
Strengths: I will be understanding yet firm with my students and staff. I will
communicate with them my expectations, be patient, and work with them to
improve their skills. I can take constructive criticism and will use to improve
myself. Im a team player.
Skills/Competencies: I am organized, an effective communicator, able to
motive and encourage, and responsible.

Areas targeted for growth: I will expand and improving my skills as an RN,
gain experience working in an acute setting and in a leadership position.
Professional Development:

Objective: I will obtain a Bachelors in nursing degree from University of

Hawaii at Manoa
within a year.
Plan/Strategies: I have applied to UH Manoa and have received my
acceptance letter. I am now
waiting for my acceptance letter into the bridge RN-BSN program.
Strengths: I am organized, eager to learn, a hard worker, and responsible.
Skills/Competencies: I am proficient in computers, eager to learn new
things, adaptable,
responsible, and organized.
Areas targeted for growth: I would like to eliminate my tendency to
procrastinate at times, gain
experience as an RN, improve my writing skills and time management.
