Timmermann, Sandra. "Long-Term Care Choices: What about Assisted Living?" Journal of
Financial Service Professionals 58.3 (2004): 27-30. Business Source Premier. Web. 6
Mar. 2015.
This article discusses the care and benefits of assisted living as a long term care option
for elderly adults. Assisted living is defined as a residential care alternative to a nursing home
that allows people to age in place while receiving services to help them retain their dignity and
preserve and enhance their autonomy. Many people choose assisted living if they want services
such as housekeeping, meals, and prefer a more social setting with on site activities and friends
to interact with. Assisted living facilities provide multiple caregivers such as: occupational
therapists, physical therapists, nurses, and nursing assistants to aid the residents. The caregivers
and services provided at assisted living facilities encourage functional independence amongst the
residents. This article is relative to the topic because it shows the care and benefits of assisted
living as a long term care option for elderly people.
