APPOINTMENT & FUNCTIONS OF GOVERNOR :


A CRITIQUE
ABSTRACT
The governors of a state of India have similar powers and functions at the state level as that of
the President of India at Union level.
The aim of this project is to introspect the Post of Governor of Any state of Indian Union. The
project mainly focuses on Appointment process for the post and also outlines the functions of
Governor.
Governors exist in the states while lieutenant-governors exist in union territories and in the
National Capital Territory of Delhi. Governor acts as the nominal head whereas the real power
lies in the hand of the chief ministers of the states and the chief minister's Council of Ministers.
A lieutenant governor is in charge of a Union Territory. .
The Constitution Provides for the appointment of governor from article 153 to art 159. All of
these will be expressed in detail in the project. This includes Qualification details, terms of
appointment, terms of appointment etc.
The powers and Functions of the governor are provided in the constitution from art 165-168 and
art 174-176, art 188, art 192, art 200203,205,207,213,217,219,233,234,243[1&2],267[2],299,316,317, and some more which will be
discussed in detail.

Furthermore the historic significance of post will also be discussed. Also important commissions
that were formed for critical review of the post will also be included in this project.
