Intro to topic 3 minutes


a Ask the students if they know what study skills are
b Randomly call on students to see if they can give you an

example of a study skill.


c Once thats finished, hand out the study skills handout
Read through some of the most important parts with them 15 minutes
a Hit on these topics (or whichever seem more relevant to the
situation)
i Finding a quiet spot
ii Ensuring that the study spot has all the correct equipment
b What does time management mean?
i Time management means that you have a schedule for
when you do things and you keep to the schedule.
ii Hand out the handout with times on it so students can
keep track of their hours if they want to.

I plan on collecting feedback from the teacher in the classroom, as
well as ask the students what they thought of the lessons.

The second lesson will focus on planning for homework, using some of the
skills learning in this lesson.

Intro to topic 2 minutes


a Today we are going to talk about how to plan for homework.

PROCEDURE

Does anyone know what that means?


Discussion 15 minutes
a Using a planner what is the best way to use your planner?
b Ask students if they remember from the last lesson what time
management is?
i Time management means that you have a schedule for
when you do things and you keep to the schedule.
ii Hand out the handout with times on it so students can
keep track of their hours if they want to.
c Organization how can you stay organized and keep things
straight?
i Using your planner will help if its organized according
to subject.
ii Get rid of old papers that you arent using anymore.
Throw away scraps of paper and broken pencils and
other trash items that may fall into the bottom of a back
pack.
iii Ask if they remember how to create a homework space at
home create a study space, where you have everything
you might need to complete your homework ruler,
pencils, markers, paper, etc. Find a quiet place where you
can do your work, away from distractions so you can
concentrate.
Hand out the homework tip sheet for parents and students 3 minutes
a Briefly explain the contract and tell them they dont have to sign
it if they dont want to, but they should at least look at it and
share it with their parent or guardian.

There is no follow up plan, unless there is an issue that is brought to the


attention of the teacher and then forwarded to me. I hope that all the students
take this skills and apply them to their school work.
