ABSTRACT

The following experiment outlines the proper procedure for determining the
torsion properties subjected to pure torque loading and identifying the types of
fracture surface under pure torque. During the experiment, mild steel was used to
demonstrate how material behaves during testing conditions. By measuring the
applied torque with respect to the angle of twist, the shear modulus, shear stress at
the limit of proportionality and failure conditions can be found. Ultimately, the shear
modulus for mild steel was determined to be . kPa.
