Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing in response to the position that has recently opened up for a new keyboardist for the
Chicago Symphony Orchestra. During my time as a Piano Performance Major at BYU, I have
spent a good deal of time playing with orchestras and have enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
Thus, when I learned on the Chicago Symphony Orchestra website about a opening in this area, I
knew this was an opportunity I could not let pass.
I have been playing in orchestras for several years now, both as a soloist and as a member of the
orchestra. Throughout Middle School, Junior High, and High School, I alternated between
playing the violin and piano for our orchestras in Springville. Our conductor was excellent and
exposed me to some excellent orchestral music. During my college years, I have also had
opportunities to participate in orchestras. Last year, when I was a sophomore, I was the pianist
for BYUs Philharmonic Orchestra. I also won the BYU Concerto Competition this year and last
year, so I was able to perform as a soloist with the BYU Philharmonic and Symphony
Orchestras.
In addition to my experiences playing with orchestras, I have also performed and competed
frequently in chamber groups, as well as with solo piano music. I enjoy learning music quickly,
which has given me the opportunity to collaborate with other musicians on some of the
quintessential repertoire. Furthermore, I am constantly learning as much solo piano music as I
possible can.
Most of my previous work experiences have been in music fields. I have been teaching piano
lessons for the past seven years, and I am in high demand as a teacher in my community. I have
also spent a large amount of time accompanying and playing for other events. Moreover,
whenever possible I have used music to serve others especially within my community. I am
currently serving as an officer for the BYU MTNA Collegiate Chapter.
Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have additional questions for me, or would
like to schedule an audition or interview, please feel free to contact me at XXX-XXX-XXXX or
by email at XXXXXXXXXX. I look forward to meeting with you.
Sincerely,

Alissa Freeman
