ABSTRACT
This research aimed to identify the determinants in encouraging relatives to seek elective office in the
case of four barangays of Science City of Muoz: Cabisuculan, Naglabrahan, San Antonio, and Matingkis,
Nueva Ecija.
Structured interview questionnaire containing statements and scale that measured the
determinants in encouraging relatives to seek elective office. Another part of the questionnaire was an
open-ended question to arrive at the concept of political dynasty among the select barangay officials.
Data were limited to the respondents responses in the questionnaire and descriptive and correlation
statistics were used to analyze them.
The study found out that the concept of the respondents regarding political dynasties were
either family rule which viewed as a leadership of one family, public service which viewed positively
stating it is a continuous help and power which viewed negatively stating it is a form of greed of power.
The study also found that political dynasty is perceived to bring goodness but most of the respondents
stated it should be prohibited in the national level.
There is a significant relationship between the socio demographic characteristics of the
respondents and the determinants in encouraging relatives to seek elective office in terms of having
relatives in the city and family experienced in public service. Those who dont have relatives in the city
or higher office are much motivated to encourage their relatives to seek electives since they have no
power and influence they opt to concentrate in the grassroots level for the purposes of widening
political connection and base. Respondents which has family experienced in public service has a strong
agreement on the organizational politics determinants, this reveals that they are motivated to
encourage their relatives. This might for the purposes of gaining favours from the City Officials and
widening of their political connection in preparation to their future political bid.
