Write the equation of a trig function that begins at the origin and
has an amplitude of 2.5 and a period of 1/2.

Write the equation of a trig function that begins at its amplitude

and has an amplitude of 5 and a period of 6.

How to Graph One Period of a Sine or Cosine Function

1. Determine the amplitude and period.

2. Label the x- and y-axes with these values.
3. Calculate the other important x values by multiplying the
period by , , and .

How to Graph One Period of a Tangent Function

1. Determine the period.

2. Divide the period by 2. These values straddle the origin on the
x-axis and are the location of your asymptotes.
3. Divide by 2 again. These are your other important x values.
4. Label the y-axis with your a values.
5. Graph the 5 key points (2 of the points are actually
asymptotes) and connect with a smooth curve.

Sketch a graph of one period of the function.

y = 2 tan 3x

y = 5 tan x
