A lesson plan is a teacher's plan for teaching a lesson. It can exist in the teacher's mind, on the back of an envelope,
or on one or more beautifully formatted sheets of A4 paper. Its purpose is to outline the programme for a single
lesson. That's why it's called a lesson plan. It helps the teacher in both planning and executing the lesson. It helps the
students by ensuring that they receive an actual lesson with a beginning, a middle and an end that aims to help them
learn some specific area that they didn't know at the beginning of the lesson or practise and make progress in that
specific area.( www.englishclub.com)
Lesson plan can be enhanced with the use of technology as it assists by reducing cost -There is less need for
manufacturing companies because now products can be uploaded straight to the Internet, it is continuous and
captures the attention of the children, it is ever lasting and can be used over and over seeing that it can be stored on
mostly. Thus this instructive portfolio contains detail lesson plans a sample of the technology use to complete it with
a follow up like that leads to a website that was also created for the same purpose.
Philosophy
Learn and Play Preschool offers unique programs situated in newly renovated schools located at 245 and 481 Main
Street in Acton. Our goal is to provide a home-like environment which is especially important for those children
encountering their first experience away from home. We offer small class sizes and ideal student to teacher ratios.
This enables the teachers to have a powerful impact on each child's development by giving them the individual
attention that is essential during their early years. The teachers are experienced and knowledgeable about early

childhood education. They work collaboratively with one another to support each other in providing an atmosphere
that is safe and engaging for all children. They are selected because they represent the values and beliefs of Learn
and Play Preschool. Each teacher believes in on-going and open communication with parents. This is provided
through: 1) A monthly calendar and newsletter 2) Assessment and conferences twice a year and phone calls on an as
needed basis 3) Daily highlights of the days events 4) Moments of conversation at drop-off and pick-up times.
The teachers provide a consistent schedule with a balance between teacher-directed and child-centred activities. By
providing a setting which fosters self-esteem, builds confidence and is based on respect, it is our goal that the
children will be empowered to take risks in their learning. Through guided discovery and hands-on learning, children
will be involved in a fully integrated curriculum. The broad range of age appropriate activities will easily engage
toddlers and pre-schoolers. Activities will be based on monthly academic units of study (i.e. Ocean Life). In addition
for the preschool program, a weekly letter focus (i.e. the letter A), social skills themes (i.e. friendship) as well as
literature theme days. The children will be introduced to multidisciplinary experiences including: children's
literature, dramatic play, puppet shows, listening centre, arts & crafts, science discovery & nature, cooking, sensory
activities, social skills development, music & singing, fine & large motor activities, computer and early math skills.
In addition, the curriculum will be enriched by field trips and special guests.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide every child with a quality early childhood experience. We strive to create a safe, nurturing
and developmentally appropriate environment which fosters individual needs. Our staff views education as a
partnership between parents and teachers. We believe it is essential to develop a good rapport with each child and
parent based on open communication and mutual respect. We believe this is the foundation of a successful school
experience. We believe in empowering children by offering them opportunities to make decisions and solve
problems. It is our goal that children will possess confidence in their abilities and establish lasting relationships with
teachers and peers. By offering an engaging curriculum it is our aspiration that each child will develop a positive
outlook towards school, a better appreciation of the world around them and acquire a lifelong love for learning
during their time spent at Learn and Play Preschool.

2. The teacher will design a game using the same concept of Simon says to get the children to identify the
numbers in a fun way
3. The teacher will encourage the children to sing along to a number song
Contingency plan
If technology fails the teacher would use the following:
A large foam mat with numbers cut out from different coloured Bristol boards as well as pieces of Bristol board that
would be used for valuation. Double sided tape would be used to stick each number and their value.
1. The teacher walks into the room covered with numbers from 1-10
2. Ask the children why she is dressed that way
3. Encourage the children to sing along to the nursery rhyme 1,2 Buckle My Shoe
4. Encourage the children to count from 1-10 using their fingers
5. Give each child a sheet with numbers from 1-10
6. Allow each child in the group to say the next sequencing number and value
7. Allow the children to stick the pieces of Bristol board as they each take a turn
8. The teacher and children would all count from one to ten as they sing the number song
9. The teacher would do a recap of the activity to identify if students understand the concept
10. The teacher will ask each child individually to identify a number and its value

classroom up in a logical,
comfortable way so
your students can move around safely and you can see all of them. Post schedules, calendars, helper charts and
colourful teaching posters around the classroom. Prepare for anxious parents with questions and sometimes tearful
youngsters as both groups make the adjustment to the little ones being in school. And keep yourself healthy and
rested so you'll always be at your best when working with your young students.
Get (and Stay) Organized
The best way to maximize your chances of having a successful school year with your pre-schoolers is to get
organized before the first day of school. Use colourful storage bins for school supplies, cubbies for each student's
belongings and folders for sorting students' weekly work. Pre-schoolers have a short attention span and may not be
used to following schedules, so create a daily routine for your class and make a simple, colourful poster outlining the
schedule so your students know what to expect. Position desks into small groups and assign each student a desk with
her name on it so students know where to go each day when they arrive.
Classroom Management
Develop your classroom management policies and make or buy any materials necessary for implementing them.
With pre-schoolers, one of the most important tools is a behaviour chart of some sort. From the very first day, teach
them your discipline policy in simple terms they can understand. A green/yellow/red chart is a common tool for
helping students track their behaviour make this and hang it up in a prominent place at the kids' eye level and refer to
23 | P a g e
http://dkateachersportfolio.weebly.com/
it from day one. Mark wall hooks or cubbies with students' names and explain they are to hang coats and backpacks
there each day when they come in the classroom.
Connect With the Families
Plan a few simple outreach activities to forge the connection between home and school. Consider creating a welcome
packet for each student to take home the first week of school. Start with a friendly letter introducing yourself,
welcoming the families and informing them how and when they can contact you. Include the daily schedule, the
school-year calendar, your policies and expectations and any forms you want the parents to complete and return to
you, such as transportation instructions and emergency data cards. Identify ways parents can volunteer in the
classroom occasionally, such as helping with special projects, going on class field trips or organizing holiday parties.
Minimize Anxiety
Decorate the classroom in inviting colours. Establish a "cosy corner" with bean bag chairs and a colourful rug for
quiet reading. Spend time the first week helping students get to know each other, learn the classroom procedures and
rules and get used to being apart from their families. Do an "all about me" activity with the children so they get to
talk about what they like and the kids begin to establish connections? Create a bulletin board where each student can
hang a picture of himself, along with a drawing of a favourite pet or activity. Another option is to give each child a
brown lunch bag with instructions to fill it with four or five things that are meaningful to them. Each child will get a
chance to do "show and tell" with the items in the bag. Or choose one day on which the kids may bring a favourite
stuffed animal to use at rest time. (Thompson, n.d.)
