EdPuzzle with

Discovery Education

Blended learning got you baffled? Today we will incorporate EdPuzzle into
your digital arsenal to help you! EdPuzzle is a quick and easy way to create
interactive videos that will engage your students, K-12, while providing
valuable data on student progress. Today we will work through a Blended
Learning rotation consisting of instruction, collaboration, and individual lesson
creation. You will learn how to download videos, embed quizzes and voice
overs, and track student progress. Please have out your laptop, your log-in
credentials for Discovery Education, headphones/earbuds, and a microphone.

Introduction to Light

Create an Account and Class List(s)


1. Go to the EdPuzzle website. www.edpuzzle.com
(Do not use Google Chrome. It will not show you
the video editing tool bar.)

2. Create your class for the current school year.


You may create various classes to ensure you
register all students you may teach.

Creating Videos
1. Log-in and make sure you have a class created
2. Click on My Videos tab on the top right
3. Options for selecting a video:
1. Upload Existing Video using Upload tab. If you have the file on
your
computer use this option. Select where the videos
are stored and drag and
drop them from there.
2. Create a New Video Lesson using Creating a New Video Lesson tab. You
can search existing videos in all the popular videos
sites such as YouTube,
Discovery Education, etc. If you
have the URL paste it into the search box.
3. Once the video is uploaded you will be prompted to begin the 4
editing steps to create your video.

Video Editing Steps


1. Cropping (Red Circle): Move the red handle to your desired
beginning and end to your video.
2.Audio Track (Blue Circle): Click microphone and record your voice by plugging in a
microphone, right clicking the microphone link next to the play button and talking into your
microphone. If you make a mistake you can remove and reset recordings after they have
been recorded. The Audio Track step is optional, please note you will have to record the
entire transcript for the video. If you prefer to record over a small section of your
transcript, using the following step, Audio Notes, rather than Audio Track.
3.Audio Notes (Yellow Circle): Click on the yellow tab and enter your own voice. You can
record thoughts, questions, reminders, notes, etc. It will ask for permission to use your
microphone, please select yes. Speak clearly into a microphone plugged into your computer.
4.Quizzes (Green Circle): When you want to add an open ended question, multiple choice
response or comment at any point in the video press pause. Click the green handle on the
bottom of the screen. It will prompt you to insert a formative assessment to check your
students' understanding.

Saving your Video


Step 1: Click the Done tab where you will name your video and
select the language for it.
Step 2: It will then ask if you want to assign the video to your
students. If you say yes it will take to you your classes and
assignment window. Make sure the correct class is clicked and is
highlighted in blue. (Make sure you do not allow students to fast
forward through the video. Check the box stating you do want
them to be able to skip.)

Student EdPuzzle Accounts


Step 1: Give code to students, they will need this to register. You
can find your code when you log in to EdPuzzle. If you students are
too young to register, the teacher can do this for them. If you do
not want to register your sutdents an option is to post the hyperlink
of your video to a place asesible to students. (class website,
newsletter, class assignment list)
Find the code by clicking the
share button. If will give you the URL that you can copy and paste.
Step 2: Have students go to www.edpuzzle.com. Have them click on
the student register tab. They will be prompted to enter your code.
They can then go into videos assigned and begin the assigned tasks.

Use the Data to Inform Instruction


Step 1: Click on your class
Step 2: Under Actions, right click the blue tab labeled Progress. Here you
will find each students name.
Step 3: Click on an individuals name. This will give you several forms of data:
1. Percentage of Videos Completed
2. Percentage of Quizzes Completed
3. Number of Questions Answered Correctly
4. The number of times the student watched each section. This is color
coded for you. (White=xO, Green=x1, Orange=x3 and Red= or > x4)
5. Amount of Time on Video Segments
6. Student Quiz Answers
