To whom it may concern,

I am very pleased to write this recommendation for Stephanie Valko. I have known Stephanie for 4 years,
having her in my class and being her advisor. While Stephanie has many positive characteristics, there are
three strengths that standout: professional attitude, belief in active learning, and self-motivation. These
characteristics should serve her well in her teaching career.
Stephanie portrays the ideal young professional teacher. Stephanies academic work has been good. She
loves to learn and enjoys a challenge of learning new ideas and linking those ideas with prior learning. She
arranges her work as well as she can, knowing that interruptions may occur. She works well with others,
listening to ideas, sharing her thoughts. Ms. Valko genuinely cares that every student is learning and
understanding the why behind a problem. She has a good sense of humor, laughing and sharing her
enthusiasm. To the point, Stephanie Valko characterizes the many attributes that are desirable in a beginning
teacher.
Stephanies second strength is her belief in learning by doing. Stephanies classroom will be a center for
projects and presentations. In class Stephanie has demonstrated engaging activities in her sharing with the
class. She will have students thinking and applying math. Furthermore, Stephanie will be able to help students
learn, by focusing on patterns whether those patterns are in math or a students interest. She will make
mathematics come alive. She has great ideas for group work as well as individual projects that have students
thinking. Stephanies ideas involve exploration, expecting students to explain their solutions. She will have all
of her students doing math, modeling math, problem solving, and communicating about math. She will not let a
student sit on side and just observe, or not be involved. Briefly, Stephanie will put into practice what she has
learned about students being active learners.
Finally, Stephanie Valko is self-motivated. She does not wait to be told what to do, nor does she always need
someone to remind her to get something done. I have seen this in Stephanies work in university courses as
she always anticipated which courses to take and balanced her course work and other work throughout her
time at Bradley. Stephanies intrinsic motivation and her love for learning will allow her to model life long
learning to her students. In short, Stephanie Valko has her own goals and pushes herself to attain those goals.
All in all, I am highly honored and delighted to recommend Stephanie Valko for a teaching position. She is one
of the better preservice teachers that I have worked with in the past ten years. She will be an excellent teacher,
offering your students challenging, fascinating classes and displaying sincere interest in their lives. I am
confident that you will find Stephanie Valko an excellent addition to your schools faculty.
Sincerely,

Dr. Jean Marie Grant
