Computer with projector, pencils, career cluster survey

Pre test, intro to activity, career cluster survey, conclusion things to think about until next
time.

Explain activity and what theyll be learning about. 3 minutes


Pre test 5 minutes
Hand out the career cluster survey and tell students to check the options that they are
interested in provide help if they need it the survey could be read aloud and the
students can check boxes as you go along. 15-20 minutes
Allow student to finish the survey, collect them and have them start thinking about
careers they might be interested in the counselor can tally them up for the students if
there is a lack of time to do it during the lesson.
Follow up this lesson with Part 2.

Hand the surveys back out to the students and discuss what a career cluster is 15

A Career cluster is a set of jobs that require similar skills. An


example would be the Health Services career cluster contains jobs
like a doctor, nurse, a dentist.
b. Tell the students that Indiana has 16 careers clusters: Agriculture,
Arts/AV Technology/Communication, Education/Training,
Hospitality/Human Services,
Architecture/Construction/Business/Marketing, Health Science,
Information Technology, Manufacturing, STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Mathematics), Public Safety, Transportation
c. Show power point with what jobs fall under each category
Have the students turn to a neighbor and have them to quietly share a cluster that
they got and if they were surprised. 5 minutes
