Workshop Lesson Plan


Title: Innovative iPad Use in the Classroom
Date: March 16, 2015
Subject: Instructional Technology
Grade: Levels: K-5
Duration: 90 minutes
Synopsis: Teachers will learn innovative ways to use iPads with students to support instruction
in the classroom. Technology tools that will be covered include Kahoot, ClassFlow, Popplet,
ScreenChomp, and Socrative.
Objectives:
1. Teachers will be able to identify different uses for the iPad in relation to student use in the
classroom.
2. Teachers will learn and understand how to use various technology tools with iPads to
support instruction.
3. Teachers will explore and begin to master one technology tool to use with iPads.
Standards:
Standards for Professional Learning:

Lesson:
Introduction (5 minutes):
Explain to teachers the purpose, objectives, and goals for the session. Go over the agenda and
take any questions.

Techy Tips (10 minutes):
Give teachers a few generic tips on how to use the iPad within instruction. Review with teachers
the various basic functions of the iPad that can be used creatively within a lesson. Give concrete
examples of lesson ideas for each function.
Lesson Cycle Resources (40 minutes):

Kahoot (10 minutes) Introduce Kahoot and have teachers take a quick assessment using
the tool to model how it is used. Explain to teachers the different features while using the
tools.
ClassFlow (10 minutes) Explain what ClassFlow is and show teachers a short lesson
created using Class Flow. Go over the basic features of how to create a lesson for
students.
Popplet/ScreenChomp (10 minutes) Explain what Popplet and ScreenChomp are and
how they can be used within the classroom. Show student work/video samples of how the
tools have been used previously.
Socrative (10 minutes) Explain the different features of Socrative and how to create
different types of assessments within the site. Show teachers a sample test, explaining
how to create items throughout the demonstration.

Questions/Comments (5 minutes):
Take any questions and or comments that teachers may have about the resources presented.
Exploration of Resources (30 minutes):
Have teachers explore and create an instructional resource (online lesson, assessment, student
activity, etc.) using a tool of choice that was covered in the workshop. Walk around and assist
teachers as needed.
Wrap-Up/Dismissal (5 minutes):
Address any remaining questions or concerns. Provide teachers with the workshop evaluation
survey link.
Assessment:
Informal observations will take place during the exploration component of the lesson. Teachers
will take a post workshop evaluation survey at http://goo.gl/Vr1Dge. Informal observations will
continue after the workshop as teachers implement the various tools to determine their
effectiveness of use and the impact on student engagement and learning.
