Summary : The last Day of World

As the title suggests, The last day of World by Ray Douglas Bradbury revolves around the
idea of the end of the world. The conservation between husband and wife, throughout in the
story, gives an insight of their perception about end of world and what could be done on the
very last night. The husband shares his dream and that how many of his acquaintances had
the same dream about the end of the world; how people outside were lost in anticipation but
were unable to do anything about it. The wife too had overheard about it but she doesnt

bother it until her husband shares his experience. She tries to figure out possible
reasons of this forthcoming incident and finally believes on what she had
overheard.Nevertheless; they continue their usual activities of the evening but at
the same time, share very strong feelings of affection for each other and for their
children. Their children are unaware about end of world. They are busy in their play
and sleep afterwards as always.
In my personal opinion, the story is based on an unusual idea, which doesnt occur
to mind normally. The death of a human is imaginable but the death and decay of a
planet altogether is unimaginable. However, there are some scientific as well as
religious interpretations which support this very idea of end of world.

This story gives an insight of human behavior when everyone is aware of the
coming disaster and their helplessness to save the planet. One the same time, this
also show the aspect of human nature that we start believing the same faith as of
the majority in our surrounding. It also describes the joy of family life,
companionship and love.
