Ask and Answer Questions 2
Training a puppy is hard. A puppy is just like a baby. Babies have to learn language. They have
to listen for a long time to learn. Dogs learn language just like babies do. They have to listen for
a long time before they understand.
When a mom wants her baby to learn to stand up, she holds the baby up on its legs. Then she
says "good baby, stand up!" The baby hears the word 'stand' while he is standing. Someday he
will know what that means. Think of your puppy as a baby.
A dog does not know the word 'sit' until someone shows him. He needs to practice many
times. It is confusing to dogs to get different commands for the same action. Be sure to say the
same command every time. That way, your dog will have the best chance to learn.
