Reading
Last week, the students analyzed main characters from their new
reading book, both through writing and verbally. The idea that
certain emotions can be felt when reading about a character and
his or her situation was discussed. This week we will study mood in
their stories, with student s determining how setting and tone can
create mood, and therefore an atmosphere which can help the
reader become attached to the story. Grammar development will
continue to be a focus as well, as we will concentrate on the
difference between plural and possessive nouns and identifying
proper verb tense in sentences.

Math
The students have begun unit six,
which relates to collecting and
using data and the addition and
subtraction of fractions. Last
week , through selecting at random a sample of different colored
pieces of paper from a container,
the students learned that a larger
sample size can give us a more
accurate idea of total percentages.
This week the students will continue to investigate the effect of sample size, as well as revisit addition
and subtraction or fractions.
