B = Brushless
Y = Static

Frame core length

A number, usually three

digits, designating the active
core length

Rotor cooling

R = Combined
interslot and
subslot cooling

Cooling

H = Closed
air circuit
cooling

Rotor and stator diameters

Designator, normally 6, 7, 8 or 9, but

might be two digits, eg: 82, 85 or 87,
which are variations on the basic
designation

Bearings

E = Endframe bearings
P = Pedestal bearings
with or without
underbase

Jacking

J = Provision for axial

jacking of thrust
bearing (where
fitted)
