Teaching Philosophy
I have a very student centered teaching philosophy. As a teacher, I feel it is my job to make the
information in the curriculum as accessible as possible for all my students. I bring with me a variety of
resources and mediums to present and allow my students to engage with. It is not enough to stand and
lecture, you have to interact and get your students wanting to know more. This said, my lessons are
usually set up into blocks of no more than 15-20 minutes, at which point there is a change in the flow
of class. I have found that such an approach keeps students attentive and engaged in the lesson. I also
feel it is important to know your students beyond their names and grades. Having taken part in many
extra curricular activities while on stage, I have realized how creative, athletic and distinct my students
are. Taking the time after school to watch a soccer game, coach a basketball team or attend a ballet
recital goes a long way in showing your students that you are interested in their lives. In my experience,
the time I have taken out to interact with students outside of the classroom is paid back tenfold. As a
teacher, all I want to do is make high school as interesting and exciting as possible, both inside and
outside of the classroom. If I can create a positive classroom atmosphere while leading my student on a
path to success in my class and any future ventures they might have, then I have succeeded in my goal.

Other Experiences
In the summer of 2009, I had the opportunity to travel to Peru where for 28 days, I worked in a
small Andean community. Jobs which I was assigned to included painting the elementary school, high
school as well as the town plaza, I also took part in several hygiene workshops, teaching the locals how
to wash their hair to prevent lice and how to brush their teeth. In such a remote part of Peru, the locals
only spoke Spanish and Quechua. As one of the few people on the trip capable of communicating with
them, I developed a strong leadership role when taking part in workshops or other community events.
This experience proved to be life changing, showing me that I am capable of assuming a leadership
role, one of my strengths in the workplace. Having the opportunity to teach English as a third language
was a great opportunity to interact with the locals and share my knowledge. As an added benefit, they
taught me some Quechua which made the exchange much more powerful. The time I spent in Peru
proved to be one of the deciding factors that led me towards a degree and career in education.
Field Experience
I have been fortunate to work with experienced teachers on my field experiences who gave me
great insight into how to manage my classroom. During my third field experience, my CT gave me the
opportunity to work on my own teaching skills, allowing me to employ my own ideas. I coached the
Bantam Boys Soccer and Midget Boys Basketball teams which were some of the highlights of this
stage. I also helped organize the grade 8 trip to Boston, taking care of medical forms for all the
participants, as well as placing students in their hotel rooms. Besides the extra curricular activities I
took part in, I also taught history and geography in French. This was an important goal of mine, to
prove that I can teach in both languages at the high school level. My entire experience at ST-Thomas
High School was very positive and I look forward to other opportunities in the future.
Interests
Sports have always played an important role in my life. Whether it be soccer, hockey, football,
rugby, golf, basketball or swimming, I have competed in all. Hockey, soccer and golf are the three that

I practice and enjoy the most. Other interests include history and traveling, which I have been fortunate
enough to do throughout the world. Today I have also taken up coaching hockey, soccer and basketball
in free time, which has taught me a lot about communication and leading a team.
Goals
I am presently studying High School Education at McGill University. I hope to continue
graduate studies in the coming years, to further my career as a teacher. I feel that having multiple
degrees will be beneficial for any future opportunities that may present themselves.
