PROPOSAL OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE 101

Abstract
This course has to do with Crime. Why do people commit crimes? What do they
get out of it? And once the student is in the learning process of trying to figure out the
reason behind everything they will enter the second part of the course, in the same
semester, where they will learn how to put a scenario together and solve the crime on
their own in groups. Once in a group, that is whom they will be working with for the rest
of the semester. Each group will have a forensic kit and solve a fake crime/crime scene.
This course can be taking as many times as needed and will be an elective course that you
will need to transfer or graduate, depending on what the students major is. This course
will be a great and fun experience for students to want to take. I will work with my
students on what they need help with to help pass this course.

PROPOSAL OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE 101

Introduction
The criminal justice department will be responsible for my course. It will be a
needed elective class to be able to graduate or transfer to a university college. This class
is a need if it is in the same category of the students major. Students will earn credits
hours for this course, accepting three credit hours. I would like for every student that
takes my course passes, so with that being said I would do all that I can do as a instructor
to help guide them there but doing the work is what the students has to do. Therefore, that
is why I would like to offer for my class letter grades instead of just a pass or fail course.
Is this class repeatable? Yes, because it is an elective that students need to graduate or
transfer in specific programs of study. This course will be offered by semester and in that
course in will be divided into two sections of the class.
This course will be very fun and interesting as the semester goes on towards the
end when the course changes into part 2 of the class. The topics in the class that will be
talked about and worked on is crimes and the reason behind the as well as figuring out
Crimes scenes. This will be n elective course a student would want to take for the
semester. Just give it your all and show me that you are trying and you willing to pass.

Course Goals and Outcomes

In my course, I would like my students to learn and value many things, such as
my goals for the semester in my Criminal Justice 101 course.
To understand what the word, Crime means.
To figure out the reasons behind commenting a crime
To know how to investigate a crime scene
To know how to put a scenario together
To leave this course with more knowledge than before
Once completion of the course reached, students should have benefits and able to:
Be able to figure out the basics of a crime scene
Being able to understand there is a reason behind everything

PROPOSAL OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE 101

Gain patience when trying to figure something out

Once done with this course, apply for assistant jobs in the field of work
What I mean by my different course goals and learning objectives is my goals that
I have set for my class gives good guidance for me as well as for the students. My goals
and outcomes are self-explanatory. When it comes to the learning objectives that will
show me as an instructor if I did my job well enough and if not, it is for me to find out
what was not understood and what can I do to fix it for the next semester.

Justification
Why is the course something that students should take? Because one, students
need a certain amount of credit hours from elective classes to be taken for graduation or
to be a transfer student, and two, because this course will help in so many different ways
if it has to do with your major in the criminal justice field. This class will help assist
students in their major by giving them just a little more information as far as background
knowledge, or why criminals do what they do, the reasoning behind everything. With this
course, there are assistant jobs open and available for the people interested taking this
course.

Implementation
In this section, I plan to accomplish my goals and objectives by having all the
right tools to help my students understand the concept behind everything that I will teach.
In addition, to help me help the students understand I got a book for the class called
Crime Pays! by, Thomas Plate. Moreover, in the book, it will give you information on
why criminals do the things they do and what they get out of it. For example, it will tell
you how a Securities Thief (in airports) in the East Coast makes up to 100,000 (tax-free)
in their Estimated Annual Gross.
Planning Specifications
In this course, the class will be split into two terms. The first term based on the
Why and the benefits that criminals get out of what they do. Giving basic information
and trying to understand the reasoning behind everything, even the bad. In addition, the
second term will be where I split the class up into groups, and they will be their groups
for the rest of the semester. In them groups each groups will have a forensic kit and with
a fake crime scene and for them to discover and find the underlying cause of the crime.
For a good grade, the group has to solve the crime and put a scenario together.
Content Specifications
In order to get students to take my class I will make flyers and posters introducing
this new course to the college by posting it on blackboard as well has hanging them
around campus. I expect around 20 students per class. Every student has didnt working
learning style so I will be flexible as possible to help every student as well as having

times where we can have meeting after class hours to keep my students on track. We will
need computers to help when doing background information on our different topics.
Thomas Plate calls the book that we will use in this class Crime Pay!
Table 1 on the two terms in my course

Term 1
Learning basic information on the
class subject
The reasoning behind the actions
criminals make
What criminals get out of breaking
the law

Term 2
Putting the class into small groups
Giving each group a crime scene
Each group will get a forensic kit
with everything in it to help solve
the crime
In order to get a good grade you
have to show that you have been
doing your work and come up with
a scenario on how and why the
crime took place.

Budget
The estimated coast for the course will be around $720 to buy the items needed.
This is not what the student will need to pay; this will come out of the school funds. The

Communication and Coordination

In order to communicate with my department or community leaders and others
with a say in my decision on my course I will send emails out to everyone letting them
know how my class will be taught. If there is any misunderstanding and similarities in my
work and other instructors work if there is a way we can help each other we can have
meetings once a week or so to help plan our next move.

Instructor Qualifications
The instructor will need to know the same information plus more than the
students will know. When the teacher is in college going through the class process to
learn how to become a teacher and learn how to teach a class they will have all the
information needed. An instructor need to know how to communicate with a person, how
to understand that everyone goes through their own thing in their life that may affect their
learning and grade. Therefore, as a Professor you will need to know how to help them
through their situation and how to get back on track to passes the course. The way you
would like for your professor to be to you is the same way you should be to your
students.
