Have students take out a lined piece of paper

Give them a topic. Students pre-write and write the
paragraph.
Have them find a partner and peer assesses each others
work using the paragraph assessment sheet. Collect the

paragraphs and look for any flaw you can find after they

have peer assessed one another. Note, a line may start to

time. Only allow three to wait in line. Have them try to
improve their assignment more or go into a more in depth
peer assessment while they wait.
Looking for the perfect paragraph with no mistakes which
show comprehension of what we have learned over the
past 3 weeks.
Diferentiations: The perfect paragraph will look diferent
for modified students: modified students may have fewer
supporting sentences and up to 3 mistakes within the
paragraph.
Return the paragraphs. The students must rewrite their
paragraphs and bring them to you when finished. This is to
make the PERFECT paragraph so, any mistake at all you
will need to start over.
Give the students five tries to complete the perfect
paragraph. If the students complete it in the first three
tries, give them an 3. On the fourth try, they can receive a
2. On the fifth try, they get a 1. The students who dont
complete the perfect paragraph get to write a second
paragraph. If the paragraph has all the required parts such
as a topic sentence, supporting details, and a closing
sentence, give them a 1 as well.

each part of the requirements
Silver: One main idea
Green: Topic sentence
Blue: Supporting sentences
Red: Concluding sentence
Yellow: Indent, spelling and punctuation
Thank them for their work, assess where the class is to
determine if we will need more time to work on the perfect
paragraph
Once all students have completed the perfect paragraph
the class will move onto writing short stories (which
include paragraphs, of course!)
