Title of the Lesson: Rainforest Adventure (monthly theme studies, 20 days planning)
Brief Description of the lesson: this is the first day activity plan of Rainforest Adventure: rainforest.
Circle time to play an opening song London Bridge and do some movements with the song; then, to
start our 4 activities or my lesson plan: #1 big breath; #2 rainforest collage; #3 green rainforest; and #4 I
spy rainforest.
Developmental Focus
Physical, math, science, and language literacy development.

Objective(s) building a rainforest: identify words with a similar beginning sound; isolate and count
syllables; make choices and show personal preferences in artistic process; describe location of the Color
Bird using; identify if something is living or nonliving.

Connection to Standards (if applicable) (Be sure to specify which set of standards you are working with
to construct your learning activity)
Let children know what kind of plants and animals could be found in the rainforest.
Relevance/Rationale (Why are the objectives of this lesson important with regard to supporting the
development, growth and learning of infants and toddlers?)
This objective of lesson can help children develop their phonological awareness, emergent writing,
math study (number concepts, logic, and spatial awareness), visual arts, vocabulary, gross motor,
science (physical science and life science), and social skill.

Time Needed
40 minutes

Instructional Context (Is this activity a whole group learning experience, or an activity designed for an
individual or small group?)
This learning activity is for an individual and small group, also the whole group.
Procedure (step by step) (will the children be participating in the activity in a whole group, small group,
or individually? How will you get childrens attention? What will happen during the lesson what will
they do? What will you do?)
There are 4 activities in this lesson: in the beginning of the class play and sing Rainforest Explore
together in the circle time.
#1 activity is to play a game as big breath, and discuss where they think clean air comes from. Take big
breaths in and out through the mouth and nose. How is it different? The trees give us fresh air, and the
rainforest is called lungs of the Earth. Invite each child to write his / her name on a nametag, helping
them as they need. Then, put the nametag on the floor facedown and mix them up, and encourage a
child choose one and say the name aloud. Invite children to count the syllables in the name then take
that many deep breaths in and out. Whose name has the most syllables or the least?
#2: creating a rainforest collage with small group and discuss what kind of things they might see in the
rainforest. Hide the animal photos around the art center and pretend to explore the rainforest
together. Find out the animal and imagine what kind of sounds they might hear from each animal.
Invite children to explore the supplies and plan which materials they want to use in their collage. And
then create and arrange the pieces together to be a colorful collage.
#3: the green color bird and discuss what kind of plants they see in their living place. Please walk
around the room with the green color bird and search the other green items in the room. Are they a
darker or lighter than the bird? After that, we put the leaves on the floor and hide the color bird under
one of them that need children cover their eyes. Invite one of children find out the bird and describe
where he or she found it. Which leaf was it next to / under/ beside?
#4: take out the theme poster and invite children to use looking glasses to search what kinds of animals
and plants they see. Invite them to describe and name the things they might see in a rainforest poster.
Opening question in the end of the class: do you think you would like to live in a rainforest? Why or why
not?
Invite children to dance and sing with Rainforest Explore again.

Resources/Materials Needed: teachers supplies: scissors, markers, glue, rainforest animal cards,
mosaic paper titles, green Color Bird, leaves/ paper cut into leaf shapes, theme poster, and looking
glasses. Materials for each child: background paper, tissue paper, paper, and photo strip.

Room modifications (what changes, if any, will you need to make to the physical environment to enrich
this experience?)

Plan for differentiated instruction/Instructional modifications (How will you support the individual
needs of children?)

Method of assessing childrens growth and learning

Observing as a researcher on childrens growth and learning that explore childrens behavior, skills and
knowledge more objectively. Measuring and recording process of childrens growth and learning.
Follow-up/Extension Activities (How can I provide an opportunity to remediate, reinforce, or expand on
students learning today in class?)

and white, and the other one is original with colors)

Technology inclusion (if

applicable)
Procedures (step by step)

Anticipatory Set: set up the tables and the materials we need in this
plan
Let children write down their own name on the name tags and put it on their
clothes. Need to know what children know about colors and natural seasons.
They will learn about the color wheel and the relationship from the color
wheel. Before the class begins, I make the children as four groups. Each
group table has papers, one box colors, the coloring nature pictures about a
farm (which with some plans and crops). At the beginning of our lesson, let
each child make a self-introduction and tell us her or his favorite color that
belongs to cool color or warm color. Count how many colors do you have
in the color box on the table.
Estimated time: 10mins
Description of the activity:
Let children sort the colors from box for cool colors, warm color and the
neutral colors which we will use later. After that, I show up the large color
wheel photo on the wall (if the classroom has a computer projector I will
use that). Analyze the color wheel for children to explain which colors
belong cool and which colors are warm. Also, show children that the

relationship of different colors to each other such as the three primary colors
(red, blue, and yellow), the secondary colors that mix from the three primary
colors (green, orange, purple), the neutral colors (black and white), and the
complementary colors (red & green, yellow & purple, blue & orange).
When I talk about the secondary colors, I will let children try to mix the
colors by themselves with the three primary colors.
Guided Participation: 12ins
each group color a different natural farm picture: group one only be allowed
to use cool colors; group two uses the warm colors; Group three only can
use the neutral colors white and black; the fourth group can use all colors
(cool and warm colors). This part will be use about 5 minutes for finish
coloring. Please put your picture on the board we share and disuses together
after you finish. Comparing 4 pictures from each group and following
teachers questions.
Viewing of Joan Miros WOA: 8mins
Show the Miros painting only with black and white:
What are the first things we notice?
Shape, space or placement of object?
Can you see which season in Miros painting?
Show the original one to children:
What is the difference between non-color and with color?
What are the first things we notice in the original?
Think about the colors, season, space, and placement of objects.
What season do you think in this panting?
How do the colors tell a season in the summer?
What colors are used between space and space, object and object?
What any interesting thing do you see in the painting?
Quotes from Joan Miro about colors: little by little, I have reached the
stage of using only a small number of forms and colors. It's not the first
time that painting has been done with a very narrow range of colors. The
frescoes of the tenth century are painted like this. For me, they are
magnificent things.
I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape
music.

Method of assessing
childrens understanding of
lesson/activity/objective(s)

Pre-assessment
Before the activity,
ask children find the
colors and to
understand how many
colors they know
search something
about the colors and
season. Find out the
shapes and lines in the
room.

with identified delays What modifications should I make to the activity
or disabilities
to ensure all students are included and engaged
What considerations

should I keep in mind
objectives?
regarding cultural
relevance, age
appropriateness, and
ability levels for all
learners?
The future following activities:
I will show a handmade book which is with some natural journals in each
season I made in 2011. It is called My Natural Journal. Also, I will show
the other book is called Colors and Seasons by Karen Ashram. Making
them to think about What kinds of things will you see, do with 4
seasons? How about let us to make a seasonal book as our class book
together in the following classes? Each group chooses one season, and
then requires children go home to think about or remember one of their
short natural experience story in the season they choose. Go home to
search some materials and pictures we can use in our seasons book with
parents, and bring them to classroom.
