General Audience
The primary audience is composed of both male and female teachers of students in ninth through
twelfth grade. All of these teachers are certified and the average years teaching among them is
six. This audience contains teachers of all primary subjects, as well as those of career focused
subjects. All participants have beginning to intermediate knowledge of technology.
Problem Identification
Many of todays students are growing up surrounded by technology. They have access to
information that was not readily available to students in the past. They are capable of using smart
phones, tablets, laptops, mp3 players and regular computers. In many academic circles they are
referred to as Digital Natives. Educators are in a never ending battle to keep up with the
changing technologies. Not only do they have to keep up, but they also have to be able to
disseminate which are the best ones for their students and find ways to incorporate them into
their lessons. Instructors are willing to use technology, but express that a lack of knowledge of
what is available and a lack of training on how to properly use some of the tools is hindering the
process of integration.
Google is a web search engine that lets you find information including other websites, pictures,
and articles. It is used so frequently that the name is now used as a verb. Students are often told
to Google it when looking for information. Although it is the most used search engine by
students and educators alike, neither group is comfortable enough with their knowledge of it to
go beyond the basics of what it was created for. Educators want to be able to teach their students
the how to get the most out of their searches.
Instructional Goals
Learner will know the purpose of google and how it supports student learning
Learner will be able to do a basic search on Google using Boolean searching
Learner will be able to search using pictures
Learner will be able to modify search to only include information meant for common use
Introduction
The target group of learners are teachers at a career charter high school. The group is made up of
Forty-four teachers. There are seventeen men and twenty-seven women. The groups teaching
experience ranges from six months to forty-five years. All of the learners have at least the
minimum of a Bachelors degree. Three of the members hold Law degrees. The subjects taught
by the group include all core subjects, elective subjects and pre-career subjects that are offered at
the charter school. The demographic information for this learner analysis was gathered by
administering a brief survey to the learners.
Entry Characteristics
Entry Skills and Prior Knowledge
This information was attained by administering a questionnaire to the learners. The results
showed that all the learners know how to use a basic computer. All of the learners regularly use
the internet and know how to make basic queries when using a search engine.
The learners for this workshop are educators. This gives them a better understanding of
classroom situations. All but one of the learners expressed excitement towards learning new
technology skills. All learners expressed a desire for more of these type workshops. All of the
learners felt that better training would improve their instruction.
Group Characteristics
The learners are all teachers at a charter high school in Riviera Beach, FL. The median income in
this area is $36,521, which is less than the median income of the county that it is in and less than
the state median. The teaching experience ranges from less than a year to forty-five years. All the
learners speak, read, and write in English. All of but one of the learners in interested in
educational technology.
Task Analysis
I conducted the analysis using a procedural analysis. I chose a procedural analysis because the
instruction is aimed at how to use the website. I started by creating a detailed outline of the steps
required to perform each procedure when searching on Google. To make sure that I got each
detail correct, I went to the website and wrote down each step as I performed it.
Once I had all the procedures written down, I created an outline which was turned into my task
analysis outline. Below is task analysis outline.

I (Zporal Tyson-Williams) will serve as the SME for this instructional plan. My formal education
consists of a bachelors degree in English from Georgia Southwestern State University in
Americus, GA. I am currently pursuing a masters degree in Instructional Technology from
Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA.
My Primary qualification to serve as SME is my certification as a classroom teacher.

This sequence builds on concepts using task expertise. The learner will proceed through the unit
in a step by step process. The instruction is organized in increasing order of complexity for
optimal learning. This sequence allows learners to make decisions and evaluate information
before moving to the next step.

Generative Strategy: After view this portion of the presentation, participants will be complete a
quiz activity recalling the information they have learned
Differentiation: The quiz activity will also have a paper version for those who prefer it.
Initial Presentation: Participants will view the information on images searches. They will also
watch a brief video on how to conduct an image search
Differentiation: Participants will be given printed copies of the material upon request.
Generative Strategy: After viewing this portion of the training, participants will discuss the
purpose of an image search. They will also create a quick sheet on how to conduct an image
search.
Differentiation: Participants can create their quick sheet using any tool that they are comfortable
using.

symbol and punctuation searches. Participants will them view the portion of the presentation on

Once the learners have completed the module, they will be directed to a link to an evaluation on
Google Docs. Here they will be able to complete and submit the survey for data collection. Since
I am the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on my project, I will have another SME such as my sight
supervisor, a Media Specialist, complete the module and provide feedback through the Google
Docs survey as well.

Once the participants and the SME have all the survey, I will analyze the data for suggests for
improvement. My analysis will computational for the questions that require the selection of a
value. For questions that require more in-depth answers, I will look at the issues addressed, the
number of times they were addressed, and see if it is something within the module that may need
to be modified or something from the website that I cannot addressed. Using this information, I
will adjust the model material as necessary before offering it to another group of learners.
