Exploratory essay
German Engineering of Automobiles and its Superiority
October 15th, 2013. That was the date when I acquired my first German engineered
automobile. It was a sunny morning and my father called me and asked me if I would come
with him to look at a car he wanted to buy for me. I complied, and he picked me up to
explore this perspective steed. At that time, I had no preference to any particular type of
vehicle, all I had as priors was a 2003 Yukon Denali XL. The Yukon was my fathers car that
he handed down to me temporarily; about a years span. I was greatly eager to travel to see
my perspective car and when I got there I saw how vastly different it was to my Yukon. This
3 series was a small piece of metal, 2 door with 15 wheels. Upon first glance, I hadnt
realized that this was to be the car for me, however, once I got in the car I was in a
completely different world. The crispness of the gears shifting from one to the next, the
sound of the engine roaring as the revolutions rapidly increased, and the sleek look that a car
of 20 years old still could maintain stunned me. We went ahead and bought the car, and this
is now the car I currently drive today. This car brought me into my love for German cars and
their quality of engineering that can make a car perform at its absolute best longer than any
other car in their class. When you look at other cars made by the American motor company,
JDM motors, and others you will never see the advanced technology and quality of

components as you will see in German cars. BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, and Audi;
these are the brands that will remain on top of the others in their class.
German cars, since their creation, have always had their focus primarily on
performance and enhancing it to be at its best for millenniums longer than their competitors.
The automobile industry is Germanys economies driving force. Companies that are based
out of Germany are distinguished by their cutting edge technology and innovation. Germany
is the clear leader in innovations that are environmentally conscious and friendly. Currently,
five German companies dominate the automotive industry; Volkswagen AG, BMW AG,
Daimler AG, Adam Opel AG, and Ford-Werke GmbH. The fact that all of these companies
are German shows that they may not produce the same quantity that Japanese, American, and
Italian producers create, however the quality of the automobile brings consumers to the
market. Wars that involved Germany have greatly impacted the automobile industry as well,
bringing about technological and engineering changes to heighten the impact of the
automobile. Auto Union in Germany started creating new models of cars that were
specifically for war purposes, later put on mass market for civilians to drive. This included
the P106 model which was the most popular of the models created during the WW2 time
period. Germany originally began with the company Audi which expanded to include BMW,
Benz, Opel, and VW (in that order). Currently all of these companies and more including
Porsche and Lamborghini are owned by the Volkswagen Corporation.

These reasons stated in the second page of this essay are huge in identifying that the
leader of the automobile by a landslide is German companies. My personal experiences with
my car throughout the time I have owned it also have contributed greatly to my reasoning
that German cars are superior. I have seen my car go through thick and thin, however the
thick is not always as bad as it could be due to the precision and quality of the engineering
used to create the car. The German cars are engineered to last longer and harder than their
competitors and I have seen that while using my 20 year old car that is in better condition
than most cars 10 years younger than her. Japanese and American cars are produced to be
cheaper than their superior competitor and are made to be affordable, not dependable. The
everlasting dependability of German cars is unmatched as it always has been.
