The Sound of Africa

I. Preliminary Planning-Set up presentation, get drums from the music teacher, and set
up a camera to record the sound composition assignment.
Objective(s) of the lesson:

To listen to different forms of African music both past and current

some drums in different ways.

-Videos of different African dances and songs will be show using


the prepared presentation. These videos will be both tradition and
new aged renditions of songs.
-Traditional African drums will also be brought in for the students
to examine and played.
-They will then create a sound composition assignment by
following directions and playing piano, forte, crescendos, and
decrescendos that are randomly conducted. They will also be asked
to repeat rhythms that the teacher first plays.

It was very difficult to keep the students well focused today.


Unlike other lessons they did not have their listening ears on very
well. Next time I should try to have a clearer route for the lesson to
go so it flows smoother.
