Dear Nancy,

I am very pleased to offer you a position in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Integrated
Biological Sciences Summer Research Program (IBS-SRP) with the Endocrine sub-group. If
you decide to accept our offer, you will be participating in a 10-week research program (May
26 August 1), working full-time in the laboratory of Professor Linda Schuler in the
Department of Comparative Biosciences. Please let us know if you will join us by returning
the enclosed acceptance form as soon as possible.

In addition to doing research, you will participate in a number of activities with other students
in the IBS-SRP, and students participating in several other UW-Madison summer
undergraduate research programs. The IBS-SRP sub-groups will meet regularly to discuss
research, including writing and presenting research proposals and papers. At the end of the
summer, all students will present the findings of their research projects at a symposium, and
their final research papers will be published in an un-copyrighted IBS-SRP Journal. In addition
to these sub-group activities, the large IBS-SRP group will meet regularly for seminars, panels
and discussions about preparing for graduate school, and overarching concepts in biological
sciences research.

The Endocrine Society will provide you with a stipend of $6,000, a bedroom in a suite shared
with one or more program participant(s), a meal allowance, and will pay for your travel
expenses to and from Madison. In addition, fees will be paid that give you access to libraries,
computer centers, student unions, and recreational facilities at the UW-Madison. If you lack
medical insurance (which is required for participation in the program) please complete and
return the enclosed SHIP form and we will pay for your coverage during the program. If you
already have health insurance you do not need to return the enclosed form.

The Endocrine group and I hope that you will choose to participate in the IBS-SRP this
summer. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Janet L. Branchaw, Ph.D.
