What is loneliness? Who is lonely in the novel, with reasons for this age,
race, sex, mental state. Why is this represented think about the lives of
the characters and that Steinbeck is representing realistic problems.
Paragraph one:
George and Lennie they travel together, and therefore shouldnt be lonely,
but they are. Why? Think about Lennie in particular and how he is treated
because of his mental state. Also, what happened in Weed, and how this
makes them lonely.
Paragraph two:
Candy is lonely. Why? Who is his friend what happens to him, and does this
make him more lonely. How is he like George and Lennie?
Paragraph three:
Crooks character. Why is he lonely? How is he treated how does Steinbeck
show his loneliness the prejudice, and his own room, how is he similar /
different to the other characters?
Paragraph four:
Curleys wife is also lonely in a very similar way to the others why? Also in a
different way her marriage. How is her loneliness shown think about her
parallel conversation with Lennie. Think about the ultimate effect of her
loneliness.
Conclusion:
Summarise what you have written; suggest what you think Steinbeck is
saying about loneliness. Think about how this fits into the other themes of
the novel, why it is important, and why it is, ultimately inevitable.
