Summary (No less than 10 sentences for full credit)
Protesters have taking over buildings in April 2014 because they want their demands to be met.
Pro-Russian protesters who have been causing chaos wont be prosecuted if they disarm and
leave buildings. Turchynov told the parliament that its guaranteed there will be no prosecutions
if the protesters corporate. Protests were in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv, and the main
problem was that protesters that were holding buildings were are being used by enemies in
Ukraine. The Minister Arsen Avakov said that protests were going to be resolved either by force
or by reaching an agreement. There has been many places accused at starting this chaos. The US
has accused Russia while the Czech Republic has accused Moscow. Russia has troops along
Ukraine's borders in case there is need for a fight. There are also lots of imagery which shows
there are about 40,000 Russian troops along the borders. Russia has said that they dont plain
unusual activities, but pictures has shown otherwise. There are fears that Putin has plans to
invade eastern Ukraine where there are lots of ethnic Russians. The state financial monitoring
office announced asset freezes against Yanukovych and many people close to him. Also bank
accounts of 67 representatives have been blocked off because of there has been money handed
around which caused many corruption. Ukraine has dependence on Russia for their supplies of
natural gas which is a huge concern because Ukraines economy is already struggling. Also
Ukraine owes 2.2 billion for natural gas to Russias monopoly. Putin warned Ukraine that they
would shut down gas supply if money that they owed wasnt given. Ukraine saw this as a
weapon, and they are ready to pay dept. Ukraine doesnt have much natural gas, so they need to
from either Europe or Russia.
Reaction (Must include evidence of point of view and/or bias and/or understanding of article; no
less than 6 sentences for full credit)
I think that protesters should have the right to protest because they just want change. Also I think
that its a good thing that they said if protesters surrendered there would be no criminal charge,
but this was also an issue. This would cause so much tension to the people who would not chose
to surrender because in 48 hours troops would use force to stop these protests. I also think that
Russia shouldnt be so harsh on Ukraine, and should give them time to pay them back. If Russia
shuts off Ukraines natural gas supply this would cause so much poverty and chaos. Also I think
its a good thing bank accounts were frozen because so much money given around has caused
corruption. Money was also a huge issue which caused much violence. Russia also didnt need to
have 45,000 troops around the borders of Ukraine because this caused so many countries to look
down at Russia. A lot of footage of this caused people to think that Russia was ready for

violence. The US didnt need to get involved because this just caused more tension, but it was
also good that they cared.
